Yes, basically the only difference between the cards is that the Audigy 2 ZS has 7.1 audio support (something you can't softmod).

You can even "softmod" a Live 5.1 or an Audigy 1 into the ZS with only some functionality missing (7.1 of course, some advanced DVD playback options I believe).

Yes you can. I have turned my audigy 1 into aud2 zs. There is a good article on the Driverheaven forums.
