View Full Version : Has anyone thought of doing this?

Having recently done my first window and having a little help from my father, he brought up a good point, why didn't they include some sort of template? I mean I traced out the window, and cut the hole, but never having done a window mod before I had no idea that I had to make that hole a bit bigger to accomodate for the thickness of the gasket. If they had supplied some sort of full-size template (I'm guessing it'll actually be about 12 1/2" x 16 1/2" or bigger in my case, never did get a final measurement) that one could just tape down and trace and cut and be done? Or is there something like this and I just don't know where to look?

Same thing just happened to me, the other day...maybe you're supposed to fit the rubber around the window and then draw the window around your case side...

I was about to say that they couldn't do that as everyone might make their windows different sizes, but if you bought a precut window then it's a good point. I think I've actually trimmed a little too much off my window in some places, there's only a mm or so in the gasket on one side - any more and I'd have had to cut a new window :p

I guess you need to allow a margin all the way around the window perspex equal to the thickness of the rubber between the two slots, which is kinda hard to measure without calipers. Just saying 'allow a 1/4" gap (or whatever) between the window and case' would help.

i got my window kit from pcmods.com and it came with a small washer, i think its 1/4". you place the window where you want it, then place the washer on the edge of the window. place a fine tip marker in the center of the washer and draw around the window and this will give you the extra space you need.

That sounds like a good idea - wish someone had mentioned it to me when I was doing my window

ahhhhh I get it now..

The instructions from CaseETC I got were just a piece of paper that said to place the plexiglass against the case and then use the washer to draw around the outer edge. I wasn't quite sure what the heck that meant so I just drew around the plexi heh. Oh well I guess that's the whole point of learning :p

thanks all for the info!
