haha, okay first of all, even though i am being a little overly competitios, please do not delete this thread MODS, this is friendly competition only wanting to further the scientific endevours of folding.

that said,

we need to kill hard ocp cuase u know we are better than those ants.

please any ideas are welcome

WE want second place and that means MORE ppl to fold and MORE ppl folding MORE MORE MORE

never turn of your machines and go dually if you have a p4.

1.) Recruit more people! ( We get the most out of this one)

2.) Everyone borg at least one computer a week.

3.) Everyone invest some money into a duron.

I think, for the most part, we're already pulling our best, and if not, then shame on us. Let's get busy people! :attn:

I'm inclined to agree with 2 of matrixzen's 3 ideas. I disagree with the 3rd one based on my experience with durons. If you're in the market for a duron and there's ANY way possible to save for another couple weeks and get an XP, do that. The extra time you have to wait to start folding will be more than made up for in a couple weeks or less. Simply put, durons suck for folding but if that's all you can get, go for it, slow folding is better than no folding :)

No way this will happen anytime soon. We'll need more leverage from big guys like wedo and nikh, who have access to some serious ethical borging of enterprise networks.

I was being a little sarcastic when I wrote number three figuring how almost EVERYONE buys tons of durons and builds clusters of them. Have you ever seen a P4 cluster? If not, then I'll be the first one to do it. :)

Where I work, I have access to many computers. I'm the computer tech guy that keeps printers online, installs software on machines, keeps everything generally running, and lately I've been talking to my boss about folding. He seems really interested in it. Hopefully I'll convince him to let me try it out on one of the machines as a trial to prove it doesn't interfere with anything, and then I'll have my borg. The business I work for has two offices so there's a good amount of computer power there. I forget how many computers are there as I don't have enough fingers and toes to count them. ;)

Yes this was an EDIT

One way to do it fast? Ask permission and borg networks. Here at school we have a nice good amount of 2.4C's, 2.8's and 2.53's. I will be asking sometime.

BTW, a Duron should not have too much of a difference from an Athlon XP in terms of folding. Folding does not really benefit from L2 cache I do not beleive.

Durons are quite similar to Athlon XP's except for the disabled cache. But you probably know from first hand experience that I do not have.

I have found online that there are quite a bit of used proliant servers with dual and quad Xeon 700mhz and higher and a gig or more of ram for $750 - $3500. If you have enough, you could snag up a few of those and use them as personal servers AND some real nice folding boxes. If that's not possible, perhaps through more donations to Adopt-A-Rig we can purchase some for that.

Another possibility that I haven't thought much on or looked into much is purchasing those hosting services that are like $60-$100 a month for a fully run server with either linux or windows and using that for nothing but running folding on. That could also give quite a nice boost in turn out rather quickly.

Yes, I've had 2 durons running at 2.1ghz folding before and sometimes there was as much as 200 ppw difference between the xp's and durons on the same protein. I know each protein is different, but the durons were consistantly slower than the xp's. Granted, for the cost, they weren't bad, but the xp's are getting cheaper by the day it seems, so it would make more sense to me to save up an extra week or two and grab an xp. You can get a 2400+ for roughly 30 bucks more than a 1.8 duron, so saving an extra 30 bucks shouldn't be too hard.

Are you serious? Durons are what's hot at my house. ;)

I got one cpu folding again today and within the next month or so, I'll be adding a second cpu to my dual rig and hopefully getting either windows or linux installed on another rig. That basically amounts to 2ghz more today and 4 more on the way :)

I'll be trying to get my local school district and colleges from surrounding areas to join in also. They many not be anxious to join team 32, but at least they'll be helping the cause.

Captain I'm givin her all she's got, but I need more power

I'm shooting up the ranks and borging like crazy, if only we could get everyone on the forum folding and them to get at least 5 2ghz CPUs we might have a chance.

I wish I could fold on my router ;)

Anyways I will be o/cin my AMD XP soon.. adding a P4 2ghz, and hopefully borg a few more boxes at school.

What about Xbox's? There was a big topic on it awhial back... but someone could pick up used xbox's for $80-100... 733mhz a pop and you don't need anything else for it. (you may be able to o/c an xbox but never looked for anything about it)

Then all you need to do is use FAH for linux on it. To be cheap softmod all of them and load linux, and start folding!

Overheating shoulden't be a problem... I don't think it's ever been tested but you would always just leave the top off or something and mount them all on a rack. And heck.. if you need to you can always slap them back together and resell them :)

If everyone pitches in a little bit then we can surely catch [H]. Many of us have aim or msn right? Everyone contact all your friends through chat programs and get them to install folding. That's a start.

Also, don't forget to donate to AAR (check the sig for info).

Also dont forget to upgrade once a month that way you get the highiest performance you can out of you folder's:D I should have all 2.5+ghz folder's before to long.

If all goes well and I move out in the next few weeks then I should have my lappy and dually going 24/7. And a linux server would follow, 24/7 also.

Its unbeivable to me how hard it is to get people do do it.They seem to think its too complicated to get started(How easy is one click?) and it will bog down their pc or burn it out.

Blah on the boging down a computer I played tribes 2 every day for over 3 months just about with f@h running and I still go 1st place on the scoreboard out or 28 people in alot of matchs.

I get very upset when I see people saying it's useless to try and the only way we'll get ahead is if we get more from Nik and Wedo, or get some new power folders. Obviously everyone who folds here folds with all the computers they have.

We need to expand our userbase. OCAU has 937 active users, and 5,016 total users. [H] has 967 active users and 6,522 total users.

We on the other hand, we only have 697 active users, and 4,330 total users. If we could get more users, we might have a chance. Sure waiting around hoping that someone with 100ghz of machines will suddenly find our forums and want to fold for us, but until that happens, we should try other methods.

More users, some of whom might be dedicated enough to get even more new users, etc etc.

Its not a lost cause as long as we keep trying. Yes its hard to convince ppl that FAH is a not harmful to thier systems etc etc. But we must continue to try or we are sunk. It would be real nice to get another couple hundred active user and theres only one way to do that. Keep asking and pleading and yes groveling works to.:D I hope to adding a couple borges soon but like has been said we need more active users.

Heres an Idea. If you look at the entire user list at EOC there are thousands that havent turned in a wu in months or even years. Most of em dont even post here anymore but could'nt we launch a please come back to team 32 folding campaign? We could write up a short but sweet plead that asked for them to try FAH again and explain the upgrades to the program and the ease of install etc etc. Then start PMing and e-mailing. I think someone thought about this before and it was rejected as a bad idea. I think one e-mail wont bother folks too much and who knows we may get a nice rise in active members.
I'm proud to part of this team and know the rest of you are also.

Right now [H] has a daily gain on us by 28570 points

According to extream overclocking we have 697 active members compared to their 967, if every one of our active members could produce about 41 more points per day we would be matching their average production. Personally that doesn't seem like a unreachable goal. Much so more than putting all our pressue on gettin Nik and wedo to do it all for us

As it stands we are about 13 million points behind them so I'm not sure exactly if overtaking them should be our first priority but matching their production should be our first. Once we match their production we can worry about passing them by.

This has been brought up before, and everytime I personally was a very big supporter of the idea. Unfortunately, it always seemed to get shot down, as people thought that people stopped folding for their own reasons and it would be rude to bother them with emails, or a PM. Personally, like you Tismedt, I don't see a problem with 1 email or PM. If there ever was to be a group of people to head up such an organized effort, I would surely volunteer my time.

I suggest someone write up a quick article asking people to fold for team 32, then have it submitted and posted on overclockers.com so that more people that simply come to oc.com to check the news will see it. I'd write it up, but i'm not the greatest writer after all. Also, perhaps a small banner ad for it to go on the front site as well. I know we have the "please join our folding and seti teams" crap, but that's exactly what it is, crap. It's a tiny, plain, text add hidden away in the corner. Why not a nice flashy one to go in the middle of the page like the other banner ads?
