Ok so I have Earthlink Broadband Internet. I aslo have to computers a dell (family) and my own built one (mine). We have a Linksys BEFSX41 Router. So into the router is the dell and my pc. But everytime the power goes out, or I turn off the psu switch, or unplug the cable and I start up my computer again, my internet doesn't work. It says its connected (which is true) but it barely sends and recieves I can't even pull a webpage up after an hour. I have a ASUS A7N8X Deluxe 2.0 motherboard. Could anyone please tell me how to fix this. Because then I have to reconfigure the internet again and everytime I have to do it a different way. Is there a fix to this , or if you have this problem too please post.

PS. The dell computer is fine the power can go out, you can turn off the power, or take out the plug, etc then put everything back in/on and it works fine.

you might try to renew your ip from the router.

run->cmd->ipcofig /renew

Are you just turning off the computer itself or all the network equipment? A good rule of thumb is to never turn off your network equipment. I have all my network equipment plugged into a UPS to make sure it never gets turned off. If it's not that then my next guess would be the IP address. I'm guessing it's not renewing correctly with the DHCP built into your router. Try manually setting up your TCP/IP properties and see what happens when you shutdown/restart your computer. Good luck.

well when the power goes out it obiously turns everything off (but i think u already know that) but when I just flick the switch on the psu or pull the cord out to install something in my computer I still have to reset it all and my dell doesn't. I tried manually setting up the TCP/IP thing u said but i didn't work

any other thoughts?

could be a driver issue.

could be your router is set to assign 2-3 ip's and you arent releasing yours...so it thinks your still on and cant assign another ip.

reboot your router and see if it helps.

It is strange that you said it slows way down sometimes and barely loads a web page. That means you do have a connection but it's not a good one. I had a very similar problem and it was frustrating. It took a long time - traced it down to two things: one, the NIC on one of my older PCs was let's say really picky/or lets face it not good. The second source was two patch cables that were just OK but not great either. I make my own and a couple of my connections were crappy as it allowed web pages to load half-way then nothing. I could ping successfully from cmd as easy as can be, but it wouldn't load a page. Also, my basic dynamic DSL I suspected was flakey. After upgrading to a fixed IP and slightly more bandwidth my connection problems disappeared.

Well I think what COMO said did it. I turned off all my computers and equipment. Then I turned it back on and now my internet works fine. So like before I believe the router wouldn't renew because it techincally already had one. Thx again guys
