As some of the regulars here might remember, I posted last weekend, that it was my intention to get a cheap graphics card to keep my system running until spring 05, where I hoped PCI express and BTX would be availale, instead of spending yonks on a new state-of-the-art ATX rig that'd look stupid next summer.
With a little studying (once again, google is an invalueable tool) and some posts around here, I wound up cancelling the order of a fx5700U, and found a cheap fx5900xt.... so what is my call after this?
While most here would probably go "lets see some numbers" from hordes of benchmarks, I prefer to rely on my feeling of the changes in various games.
Doom3 - Figures, now the game is actually well playable in 1024x768. I drool at the graphics.
Morrowind - The quality of the graphics haven't changed, but stuttering is (almost) a thing of the past
Sim City 4 - No real difference. A little when i scroll through my larger cities
Cycling manager 4 - No real difference.
UT2K4 - Clear boost here as well, crispier, faster... ooomph.
NBA Live 2K4 - More fluid, but no graphics improvements here.
Anyway.. thanks for the people who posted...
Cheers, Flix
