Hi. I am looking into modding my radeon by putting an old pentium heatsink and fan on the gpu and cutting up another old heatsink from a pentium and sticking the 4 peices on the ram. Then overclocking the &%^$ outta it. Will this work? I fount this in an article on the overclocker website. Looks like it would. What epoxy should I use to stick the heatsinks down? (btw I know in the dangers of prying off the heatsink that is on the gpu and there is a great tip in that article on how to get it to come off easy.):cool:
One more thing. Can I just use regular epoxy to attatch heatsinks to the ram? Or should I get thermal tape?

what is it? put the card into freezer for 15 mins or so?

For one, you can put all the heatsinks and ramsinks you want on a Radeon and you're not going to overclock the snot out of it. You may get a little booger out of it and thats it.

Radeons run pretty cool from the start, the GPU cooler is more for looks than anything else. You can epoxy a heatsink and fan to it, and also the memory, and you'll get a little gain out of it.

For overclocking I recommend Raid-on Tweaker. It's simple to use, and you can really tweak the card with it. They guy that wrote it did an outstanding job, and even included a html (web page) based help guide that explains what you are tweaking, what you will accomplish by changing it, and his own recommendation on whether you should change that particular setting or not. You should be able to find it at radeonic.com.

As far as overclocking goes, don't get your hopes up. These cards aren't an overclockers dream. Keep your memory and core speeds the same, that is the best tip there is. If you start to differentiate the core speeds you will probably see performance drops instead of increases.

Here is a link for the Raid-on tweaker;

Which Radeon are you talking about? I have the 64DDR VIVO with the various HS upgrades to the GPU and RAM and I am able to get about another 25mhz's or so out of it.

I would recomend using thermal epoxy to attach your HS's. I used Artic Silver II thermal epoxy and it seems to work well.

My radeon is the same as yours...sorry about that:rolleyes:

That's a nice board. I like mine a lot.
Don't use thermal tape as it doesn't conduct the heat very well and after awhile your HS's will fall off. You don't want that while you are fragin' the crap out of someone as the GPU does get very hot without it. Like I said in my earlier post I used Artic Silver Thermal Epoxy. I don't know if there is going to be that much of a difference in thermal epoxy's but I just like to use the best. Be careful when you use it and make sure that you have the HS's EXACTLY where you want them as once this stuff dries you can't remove it (at least not that I know of). Make sure to read the direction on this stuff also as it sets very quickly.
Good luck and have fun with it. That's why I did it.

I had my Radeon up to 200/400 and it was stable, but i got 3 or 4 artifacts. Most people would be happy with just 3 or 4, but I don't want any. I would get no artifacts at 198/396 which isn't bad.

I have started using my Radeon more and more for video in, and overclocking it to 198 started doing funny things to my video in, so I have dropped it back to stock.

The Radeon isn't the overclocker that the GFarce is. But it really isn't necessary on a 64DDR.

How did you get your Ram up to 400mhz? I was only able to get mine up to around 215. My GPU I could get up to almost 240 but that is no where near 400.

Ummm....it's DDR. Most tweaking programs show it equal to the GPU for simplicity sake.

i was looking for info on any new ati drivers and i found this thread. i got nearly the same results with ramsinks and large gpu heatsink and fan. a couple extra mhz stable and quite afew more with tons of artifacts. i gotta ask if you can finish a 3dmark with your ram and gpu so far out of sink? i found my card would produce instability and/or lower scores when set uneven. oh ya enyone heard anything about new drivers?man im absent minded tonight. i meant to say that i used normal two part epoxy with thermal grease mixed in to lessen the strength. about 1/3 parts thermal worked the best but test it out first. and dont let your freind drop the card on your head or three of the ramsinks will pop off:)
