Rig 1:Connects dial up/gateway
Rig 2:Gets direct connection via LAN from Rig1
Rig 3:Gets direct connection via LAN from Rig2
Rig 4:Gets direct connection via LAN from Rig2

Rig1 is all the way accross the house from rig2, 3, and 4. Thus i cant connect all 4 to Rig1. What i want to accomplish is connect Rig2 to Rig1 with filesharing/internet etc.. then take Rig2 and 3 and directly connect them to Rig2 which is right next to them and still be using Rig1 as the gateway and still make it the same as if i was to connect them directly to Rig1.. I know this would be alot easier with a Router but i dont have any patch cables nor a router atm.
Basically what im wondering is will this work without making Rig2 the Gateway..

@_@ I tried to comprehend that but my brain caught on fire, I could probably help you if you made it more understandable..
Let me see if I got it, so you want to connect rig1 to rig2, then connect rig3 to rig2?

Are you suggesting that you do this bridging connections? If so, no, the bridged comps wouldn't be the gateway.

Edit: Hehe, brain fire. :)

hmm lemme see if i can draw something on Paint lol... but in short Rig1 connects to Rig2, Rig3 and 4 have to connnect to rig2 since they are too far from rig1 and dont have money for two more 20 dollar cables...

If you are running XP, by bridging conection, it would work.... but you would be a lot better off to do it like in the diagram:

Also Rig2 would have the 3 Ethernet cards bridged. forgot to add that in diagram

Yes it could work but you will also be likely to cause bottlenecks if you start moving large files.... and why not go with a simple hub or switch? It would be a lot more reliable and effective.

well i posted this caus i just didnt know if it worked and it will be a temp solution until i get one, so ya i will get a hub later. btw its working just having problems accessing shared files on Rig1 and 2 Rig3 is working though

You did set XP to bridge the connections correct? If so give all the machines a restart, sometimes XP can be fussy without a restart.

it was a workgroup conflict i guess, i had the workgroup named "workgroup" it didn't like that for some reason.. so i went back to the defalt MSHOME, working just fine now

3COM (I am a 3COM guy) makes an old LAN modem. The model # is 3C886 and 3C886A. I have one here and I have never had to use it to connect to the internet but it makes sending faxes from any PC in the house easy.
