I've been hearing things about Photoshop hogging ram and I just want to say that even with 384 MB of PC100 RAM, I've yet to have a problem with it. It hasn't slowed my comp down as much as AIM. :P

depends how big the files are, when your getting psds that are 300-500 megs, then yes it can be a ram hog :D
Layers are fun, layers are good, layers eat up some RAM :D
Here a screeny from my GF's machine with 768Mb RAM while working in Photoshop 7

Photoshop grinds almost too a halt when you run of RAM and start using lots a scratch disk

The newer versions of Photoshop with multiple undos can really eatup the RAM. When you start working with multiple layers and large files, you really come to a crawl when the RAM is filled up and the OS is searching between the pagefile, scratch disk, and Photoshop.

Once you get using and editing really large PSDs and such it can really it up your ram but in my experience when your working with smaller files for logo's and such it isn't really that bad.
Yeah... why isn't it folding?
because we dont want too fold, sorry!

hmm...so, I gather that when you have HUGE files, it tears the RAM to shreds. I don't usually work bigger than wallpaper size, but the most layers I've had was about 50. That was on a medium size document, so I probably didn't see the infamous ram sucking. Ok, thanks for correcting me. :D
yes, i used to photoshop on a 500 mhz with 128 megs of ram.images thwt were larger than my desktop (1024X768 at the time) would make it crawl...
Then i upped it to 192 and diddnt have a problem
and hten i upped to to like 232 or some odd number, and havnt used it since. (now the siblings computer)

We used to run Photoshop 5 back in high school on Pentium 75mhz machines, with 32MB ram. It was very ugly. As it was loading, all of the colors on the screen would get messed up.

This is a thread about Photoshop and its use of RAM! Your post is Spam, as far as I can see it. Why did you even bother to post your opinion, when I never asked for it!
Does everybody you know with a computer fold! Or run SETI?
I understand why some people fold, and that is their choice! But please don’t post those kinds of comments as I feel you are making me look bad because I don’t fold (or my girlfriend of 8 years, who is not even a member here!)
We run a small art business and 3 out of our 4 machines are almost always working 24/7!
FYI. we give 5% of our profits to CANTEEN. It's a charity for teenagers with cancer.
FYI 2. I have tried folding on my gaming/workstation, but I just got eefed off with it and even after I uninstalled it, it would not leave my system! It just showed its self in task manager and sucked up all MY megahertz! And when I am working, those MHz’s are very valuable to me.

I don't think you understand how it works. It only uses IDLE cpu cycles. Your computer won't slow down at all when running F@H besides the miniscule amount of RAM it uses.
PM him if you wish to talk about Folding. This thread is far enough off-topic, and it's going downhill.
