Hi guys. I just got a new 1.4 t-bird and i noticed with stress to the processor and opening programs, i find my computer freezing. This happens at default speeds and overclocked speeds. And it just dawned on me to check the voltage readings.....my 5v is steady at 4.73 and under load goes down as low as 4.61. I am running this with a 250 watt power supply. could this be the source of the problem? I think i read that it shouldn't go lower than 5% (4.75). Thanks in advance for any help.

And by the way, the chip is the AYHJA Y week 26. I can't seem to get it higher than 1533 by just upping the multiplier. Haven't messed with the fsb with this one yet. But first, i want to get it to run stably at it's default.

DOOD!!!

its that power supply..

a 250w PSU is BARELY enough for a 800MHZ Duron.. let alone a 1.4Ghz Athlon..

get yerself a 300 or 350w PSU and you should do fine. :)

yes by all means purchase a new power supply, goto amd.com and view the approved list to help in deciding on a particular one.

this book i got from the shack on how to build power supplies states that for electronics the voltage needs to be within in +-5% to operate properly.

I agree!! I have 4 power supplies rated at 300 or more. I would be happy to hand one down to a fellow overclocker for something close to nothing. E-mail me and we can maybe work something out. I have too many parts now!!
