I am sure some of you have heard of the problem with my RMA well it looks like I'll be getting to on my door step come friday but thats not what I wanted to tell everyone.

While on the phone with this guy(He called me) we started talking about the new CPU comeing and and just out and he told me in the lab he had a very new very unlocked Celeron 1gig soon to be hitting the market maybe in another couple of months.

Lower CV, Lower temps, Same cache for now but thier is talk of them comeing out in a .13 micron flavor. Talk about a sweet celeron. He also gave hint that they had a very huge something or other in the works and to be looking out for it in the comeing year.

The new Celeron should be out 1st or 2nd quatrer.

As always this has been a Overclockers.com exclusive report

sorry had to say that.

Will the Celeron be unlocked when it hits the shelves?

And the really big thing coming, I think will be unlocked P-4's. The P4 has some serious overclocking potential. And if the P-4 does come unlocked, heck even if that Celeron comes unlocked....it will be the bane of AMD.

Which makes me very happy.

No his celeron was unlocked. You think that the second scurge of the earth would unlock its CPUs just to lets us have some fun? No!!!

An unlocked p4 would still suck till their is an OS that could use the new style of binary that the CPU outputs. Its going to be at least another six months till we see Windows 2005. :D

Any intel, with an unlocked multi, that's NOT an early Pentium II is very, VERY noteworthy. :D

I'd really like to see them put these out there. An unlocked intel would level the playing field with AMD quite a bit...

**fingers crossed...knocking on wood***

No kidding Mr B I know what your talking about if they would just unlock the mult then they would sell more CPUs.

Also for all of you that have gotten RMA of crap CPUs back the guy I talked to said that they are going to TRY to get the warehouse people to start useing MM codes so no more mix ups in the steppings. So if you send in a cC0 then that is what you should get back.

Just make it accessible for us to unlock and it would great.

Solder some bridges or wire some pins for it...I DON'T CARE!

JUST LET US UNLOCK THE DAMN THINGS!

I hope our day will come with Intel. Maybe then will they reveal where they stuck the multiplier lock. Well I read its probally done in the PROM after they test them.

I hope these new CPUs don't beat P3s. I just ordered a 933 with the rest of the money I had. But I got it for $120 shipped thats a deal and its retail!

I have a quick question about Intel, Do their CPUs have some thermal safety feature AMDs don't. Twice my fan on my heatsink blew and my computer froze but after my CPU cooled it was fine. It happened again today and it was fine. Heres what happened if your interested its posted in gripes and moans (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32438)

True, but the fact that the p4 has so much head room would work against intel if it was unlocked..

after all think of the sales loss if you could get another 700-1500mhz (just an example) out of it.. intel would hardly sell any of the 700-1500mhz faster chips..

Basicaly we can make them go faster.. but if we could make them even more faster -which is almost a sure bet with an unlocked chip - then intel would lose a market nich on the next highest chip..

After all why by the next chip or chip after if we can just change the multiplyer and pop her up a nother notch instead..

well ya'll get the idea.. I for one would love a unlocked p4, but by locking their chips its just another way Intel keeps control on their own lil market, and unfortuantly on overclocking(with-in limits of course)

Yeah but then again not very many people know how to overclock or have to guts to do it. They dont want to hurt their 2'g peice of metal hehe. The only people who overclock are those who dont buy name brand comps...intel would lose very very very little money.

I would have to dissiagree with that, a lot of people know how to overclock, some however just dont have the guts for it.. and as far as name brand comps being bought only by non-overclockers, well I'm not so sure about that, I have one :)

And I honestly beleive that if intel would lose very very very little money they they wouldnt have bothered to lock their chips in the first place.. the reason they locked them was to prevent the remarking that was going on in the early pentium/pro/mmx days..

Now days its locked to secure chip priceing.. and market ..IMO..

I'm going to have to back you on this because your right Intel is all about the money and about the name brand comps. I have a friend with a gateway. From looking at his Motherboard book it seems that it is posiable to overclock but I need to play with his bios in order to do so but he keeps pussing out on me. He is like" I don't want to burn something up on it." I don't even want to OC his comp yet is cooling isn't good enough to do that. I just want to check the bios on his board to see what I can play with.

My mother has a gateway that I've been trying to overclock, so far I've managed to get into the bios by pressing F10 or in some cases F11 (thanks to Shadow for the heads up) and look around a bit, there are _No_ options of any value in there for overclocking, and only jumpers for the muiltplyer on the board, I've even tryed putting my powerleap adapter in that thing with no success I might add :/

and I know what you mean about friends pussing out.. my Sister bought a p4 system for EMAIL and I'm dieing to overclock that baby ^_^ !

I'm a little confused about the Junior/senor member stuff. I was a junior member but got moved to member. Is it how many posts you have or how long you have been a member?
