im running 2 clients on my pIII700@1.02 gig, and 4 on my tbird 1gig@1.46...
i didnt stagger the protiens this time, and i only increased like 5 or 10 units at a time when i should be increasing 20 or 10...
now im just running 1 client on my tbird...
just a look out i guess... i hope stanford just updates slow... i really wish they wouldnt

This is something I've wonder about this for awhile.
Folding with more than one client on a single cpu machine.
I guess there are some benefit ifyou have a dail-up. One can fold while the other is waiting to connect.
My thinking is that if you run two clients that they use half of the cpu cycles each. So it would take twice as long to finish both clients. Where one would finish two wu in the same time.
I run two client on my Dual cpu machine one on each cpu.
Does anyone have the definitive answer on this.
Is run two clients on a single processor machine faster at folding wu? Providing the the protiens are the same and there isn't a connection problem.

Running two clients on a single processor machine isn't any faster. All things being equal, it takes exactly twice as long to fold one protein. However, you are folding 2 proteins at once so it evens out.
You will get credit for them if you finish within the time limit. But, keep in mind, if it takes you 5 hours to fold when running one client, it will take you 10 hours to fold a protein running 2 clients. Therefore, your credit increases will happen less often.

If you have four clients, it takes four times as long to do four times as much work, and after conecting it can go four times as long before you run out of work. :)

iknow... its jsut that when i return the work... its all at the same time... cuz they all had the same protien... but when i check the stats, it only counts 5 units... i just hope it counts really slow... but i dunno

check both config files (found where you installed the clients like c:\Folding@home) make sure you have diff. Id numbers, I had 2 clients, both hadsame id numbers i didn't get credit for alot of wu's.

how am i supposed to get different user id's? im just gonna fold 1 at a time... or if i run more than 1, im gonna send them 1 at a time....
Here's what happens. You get a unit under a userid, if you then get another unit under the same userid before returning the first unit, the assignment server assumes that you encountered problems and had to abandon the first unit. You will not get credit when you finish the first unit as the assignment server no longer recognizes that it is assigned to you. If you run two clients that have the same userid and they stay in perfect sequence, you will never get credit for a completed unit.
