Yes, I somehow fried my new enermax.... left my computer running while I went for dinner, came back and my computer was off. The light on the motherboard was still on, but no matter what I did I could start the computer. I got a crappy spare psu to confirm my fears, and I was sadly correct... the crappy psu turned my computer on. I tried reconnecting the enermax psu a few times with no luck starting the computer... so here is what I am needing of thee wise overclockers.... which psu should I get?

My choices are found on this webpage: http://www.canadacomputers.com/power.html

Please note that the prices are in Canadian funds... and I want to keep the cost below $130.

ones I was thinking of were:

1)Antec TrueBlue 480 Watt
2)Kingwin KWI-450WAS
3)SilverStone 460W ATX w/ Active PFC Super Silent
4)Thermaltake Silent PurePower 480W w/ PFC
5)Thermaltake Silent PP Butterfly 480W Dual LED

Keep in mind I have a Lian Li v1000 case and there isnt a lot of room to fit a psu... for example, I believe the Vantec 520w is longer then most psus and wont fit in my case.

Id really appriate your suggestions or comments.. and ASAP because I plan to buy something tomorrow after work.

I would go with the antec. Proven good, so just get whats good and don't worry about it anymore. ;) It totally sucks that your enermax died on you WHILE you have a modding project going on.

I bought an EZ Media 430W of outpost.com and I am happy with it. It has not failed me, it is cheap and its gives enough juice to my components.

I think ive narrowed down my choices to either:

Antec TrueBlue 480 Watt
or
SilverStone 460W ATX w/ Active PFC Super Silent

which should I choose?

How bout the OCZ Powerstreams PSU....Im planning on getting one of these psu to play with my rig, since it's got adjustable pots at the rear.

Im thinking of getting the Antec Trupower 550w... is that overkill for my system?

I was also wondering if a 550w psu uses more power... Cause I was under the impression that your system will use whatever it needs from the psu.

I cant get a forton/sparkle in Canada

www.razorcomputers.net - look for Sparkle in the listings. Got the 530w from them for $160 Cdn. shipped, and can't say enough good things about their service. However, the 530w is about an inch longer than most PSUs thanks to the extra fan.

My advice would be to skip the relatively unknown quality Wintech made Ultra unit and give the Antec Neopower a chance instead... should power your system well. www.ncix.com has it in stock, and there are probably other sources as well in Canada by now.

Edit: Almost forgot to mention, if you really would like to give Ultra a try, the only source I know of is www.tigerdirect.ca where they have that particular unit for $150.

the prob with my enermax is that I modded it... cut the length of some of the cables... and i opened the psu box up (though I didnt do anything inside)... wont that void the warrenty?

Anyhow, I ordered the Ultra PSU from NCIX

Didn't notice NCIX had it... and cheaper too!

The Enermax warranty is probably gone.
