Hi
Does anyone know if Celeron2 and/or P3 with the cD0 stepping is compatible with a MSI BXMaster /w MSI 6905 slotket v.2?
Some people seems to be able to use them, but when I e-mailed MSI techsupport they responded that the do NOT support cD0 and donīt plan to do so in future BIOS realeses either because itīs a "chipset limitation".
Wanted to upgrade from 566(cB0)@112 to 800(cD0)@133, but now Iīm a bit confused. Could anyone please explain this!
thank you / Marcus
I think it's the celeron 100fsb that won't be supported. As far as I know, the chip instructions are the same.

Hi marcus_enbergh, wellcome to the Forum,
this is really an interesting question, is what I was asking to myself thinking to upgrade my i815E Pro Mobo with one of the new Cellies.
I suppose that if your Mobo, like the mine, can handle the right Multiplier, Fsb and Voltage, it must works, but I'll check it in the next days, when I got my new chip ;)

it will work.
it doesnt matter what the FSB of the CPU is... its the micro code.
but the cDo is still a FCPGA CPU, and the BX boards like them.
And the pin-out is still same.. same CPU different stepping.
You currently have a FCPGA CPU in your computer so we know that works... If MSI says it doesnt plan on supporting the CPU with a cDo stepping the worst thing that will happen is when you boot it may not say celeron.
If its the micro code holding it back, cant someone compile a new bios with updated micro code?
I have seen this done a few times on older boards succesfully, my guess is MSi wont support it because they have no wish to update the bios?

Thanks for the response!
MSI techsupport actually told me that they do support cC0, but won't support cD0. The BX Master is obviously verified by MSI to work with CPU's up to the 1 GHz P3/133. Have a look at:
http://www.msi.com.tw/support/cpusupport/cpu_support.php?model=MS-6163+V3.0
But as always that may depend on your AGP-card.
