Ok, bout a month ago I got a voodoo3 3000 agp 16mb as a temp card. from the begining it was doing wierd stuff like freezing every ten minutes in alpha centauri, but in no other games that i could tell. and every so often when id restart after a freeze id get a registry messed up error. Id restart and it would fix it. this went on for a month. last night in alpha centauri, well first my mouse disapeared then the screen went all crazy, it looked like a blur of technacolored lines. restarted freezes right when i get into win98se. I swithched the voodoo out for a agp 32mb staelth 3 this time i could boot fine in safe mode but normal freezes right when i get into windows.
system specs are:
Abit KT7-A
Duron 800mhz
Fujitusu 10.2 gb 5400rpm HD
Afreey 10x DVD
Generic 256mb pc-133 ram

oh ya the motherboard says the cpu temp is 62C this cant be right because the cpu would be freid.
thanks in advance

Wow. 62C? It's probably within 10C of the proper answer. Even if you overestimate and give it 12, 50C is too high. What sort of heatsink are you using?

Yeah, that may very well be your real temperature. Since the problems you are having sound to me to be heat-caused, I'd check your heatsink on the CPU, maybe upgrade it. At least, sand off the anodizing gunk on the bottom of it.

Voodoo3s are little mini-furnaces. The heat they make can easily send a system that not well-cooled over the edge into unstability. I have a V3 in an HP system, after 30 minutes I cannot touch it at all- in the summer, this box does weird stuff ike you repeorted experiencing.

If it is not heat, it could be a physical problem on the motherboard, God knows what tho! I really think it is heat, tho, I definately don't think it's a software problem or is software curable. Try taking the case side off, if the problem goes awy, there is your answer!

Ya it sounds like a heat problem, I would take off the case cover and check into getting a differant heatsink.

If your processor really is running at 62 C, do something about it before it actually does fry. Mine ran at 60 C for a few minutes since I put a heatsink on incorrectly. Also, try to clean your registry. There are ususally programs available to remove all traces of your previous card at tweakfiles.com

I used to run the same card, and it would do the same thing in Diablo 2. I added a case fan and it solved the problem. get some air blowing on that card, and maybe try adding a fan to the heatsink of the card. you can pick up a little 2 or 3 inch fan that will screw right onto the heatsink of that card. get one that has the four pin adaptor that plugs inline into the power supply. And if you can, also get a case fan that will get some of that hot air moving around and out of the case. Those Voodoo 3's are very hot running cards....especially if OC'ed.

Ive got 2 case fans and an alpha pal 6035 on the cpu, althoulgh I did take it off when i put the voodoo in. On the stealth it was a software prblem. the driver kept freezing it right into windows. I disable the video driver in msconfig I boot up fine. tried the newest driver from diamond, same thing. I would of just left it but with the driver disabled I couldnt change the color past 16 (not 16bit 16!.) i tried the newest win95 driver and everything works OK. although id like a better soloution.
