I heard you could turn your 128mb geforce 6800, into a 256mb geforce 6800, if you had enough DDR1 RAM...is this true? I heard you could unlock this feature in the bios. is this true? I was reading some reviews on newegg and it said he turned his 128mb geforce 6800 into a 256mb geforce 6800

i don't think this review was on an asus product. It was on an nvidia video card review.

the thing you are thinking about is that the first 6800nu could be software unlocked to a 6800gt. But it doesn't work anymore, because all are now hardlocked. And most that tried with the softlocked cards ended up with a $300 paperweight.

don't know where you got your information but this is incorrect. all the cards are not hardlocked. some cards have pipes locked through software, others through hardware, others through bios. on the bios locked cards it may be possilble to flash to a different bios and then unlock the pipes through software. The new release of rivaturner is due out on september 6th. at that point we will be able to determine more definitively which cards can mod and which cant. at this point it doesn't seem to go by brand so much as by chip.

Its possible. But, if you haven't bought it yet, I would wait a bit. Unwinder over on the guru3D forums (the author of Riva Tuner) said that they are getting about a 40% success rate in opening up those last 4 pipelines. No pattern has yet emerged to show which gpus can be unlocked and which can't. Even if yours can be unlocked, there is the possibility that the last 4 pipelines are damaged. But if you already have your card, best of luck. I myself am waiting with baited breath.
