It's a great deal in my opinion, because Verizon, at least in my area, is much more stable than cable and more secure to boot.

Blah I'm paying $50 a month for Earthlink DSL at 1500/256 (I think) and I think there is no other companies that has DSL service in my area...that really sucks..-_-

and the basic package also generously includes, downtime every other weak, tech support trying to convince you for half an hour its your fault your cable dies, and when you can fonally get them to send a tech out it using takes about 3 days and multiple techs to come out.

true.. verizon is like always down once a week... it gets slow in the afternoon to ~11pm where most people use it. but it is more reliable to cable. sorry cable users! i am more than 11000ft from Co lol, but i cant afford 10 more dollars a month..

Seriously, Adelphia goes down constantly, at least around here. One time, around half of my AIM buddy list signed off all at once. I was like "WTF" till I figured out each and everyone one of those people had Adelphia :o

I haven't had ANY problems with DSL going down in 3 years.

With this new fiber stuff Verizon is laying will they then be able to extend the range of their service cuz its fiber?

from what I've gathered the fiber is for buisnesses, I got a t1 at a job of mine(IT admin there) 'n they ran fiber into the room, than ran a 3 foot t1 extension. I dunno if they plan on branching the fiber out for households.

My dad works for Verizon. You can't push DSL over fiber, but there is fiber internet, from 5mbps-30mbps. Fiber isn't gonna be to houses till roughly 2008 though; they're doing beta now in Westchester and Bergen County.

yeah he refresheed it, to get that score, i have adelphia also, they already warned me for copyright laws for dloading dead like me episodes....also, i am 14208 feet from the nearest, used to be 18050, ugh, but only offered by covad here,,, grr

darn it! I am like 19000 feet away from my CO. They need to build another CO near me. I was doing 1.5/256 with Bellsouth DSL so I switched to cable and get Charter 3000/256, but I want more upload speed
