well im gonna go get a job as a paper boy and it says i can make up to 300 a month (im thinking around 100 probly) but anyways, i wanna build a new computer (probly wont for a while) but i dunno what i would get if i was
Athlon 64 id probly get a 2800 or a 3000 (are all a64's multipliers unlocked?) and if i were to get a p4 id end up getting a 3.0ghz or 3.2
my athlon xp kinda sucks at video editing, the a 64 would be better than the p4 right?
which system would be cheaper? i also would like to get watercooling (if not a kit then individual parts but i dunno)
then id get a 6800 or a x800
what case would i get? i want one with a window since i cant make my own since i dont have the dremel cutting blade. I kinda want the coolermaster wavemaster case heh

The p4 is better than the A64 and XP at video editing. The A64 is better at gaming. As for price, I think they're gonna both be the same either way (atleast right now).
For case, I honestly don't see any reason to spend more than 50 bucks on a case. You can find cases that are just as good in terms of looks and cooling as the 200+ dollar cases, it just won't be stamped with a brand name.

directly copied/pasted from here (http://overclockers.com/tips1077)
Clock for clock, the Athlon XP will do more work; however, the Pentium IV can go faster in MHz.
Here is a very crude analogy: AMD is a bus that can hold 20 people. You have 20 people that need to go one mile. Intel is a bus that holds 10 people. The AMD bus does it in 1 cycle. The Intel bus is twice as fast so it can take the twenty people in 2 cycles. Intel is just twice as fast to do the same job in the same amount of time.
hope this helps ya, at least a bit.

Benchmarks show that P4s are better for multimedia related tasks while the A64s are tops in gaming. If the primary use of your computer is video editing then I would go P4.

Damn, paperboying pays good these days. It would take you nearly 2 years to get a new bike when I was that age.
I think the A64s speed will improve on encoding as better codecs are released that take advantage of the architecture. But if you want right this minute fastest, it's the P4.

well i rarely do video editing, just once every 5 months or so heh. I mostly use my pcs for gaming and internet.
if i were to get 300 a month (doubt it haha) id have a new pc every 3 months lol
I just kinda want a p4 since i already have an amd
Which would oc better? a p4 at 3.0ghz or a a64 2800 or 3000?

I think AMD's generally overclock better than Intels.
Are all AMD 64's multipliers unlocked?

Well they are only locked upwards. It can be quite usefull to change the MP downward. As far as video editing goes, i would take a old dual with HT :-)
I had most High End Intels already thanks to a Vapochill and a trusty 2.6C :-) For serious multitasking i would choose the P4 or the XEONs...for anything else i would choose the A64.

So you guys are saying that you can't OC the AMD 64s right now?
P.S. The Major, is your name based on Ghost in the Shell?
