What's the deal with Intel's new proc?

Are the new Prescott procs really that great? I don't mean the 478 pin ones, I mean the Socket-T ones. I've barely heard anything about these so far. I know a new mobo would be needed, and that they support DDR2, but is it really worth the expense right now?

Also, what exactly is a Socket T processor? I have not seen any pictures of the proc itself, just of the disturbingly flat socket it fits into...
