Qwestion...
I have one of the YS Tech 120mm 131 CFM fans in a left side blowhole over the caps/voltage regs and AGP card on my Iwill KK266. It cools very well, but it's loud as a bitch, so I was considering throwing a rheostat or a 7volt resistor mod on it. Question is this:
I know the thing draws a lot of power (something like 12 watts I think) so I'm wondering where I can get a resistor or rheostat that will handle that without a problem. Is this something I can use anything for? or am I right to think that I need a higher wattage rated resistor/rheostat?
Thanks
John

If you wanted to spin down yer fan to 0 RPM, you'd need a resistor that would handle all 12 watts, right? That's not the plan I think, you just want to take off a few volts so it's quieter.

Well I don't know for sure if this is right but I haven't melted a fan or anything yet- I use the 3 watt RadioCrack rheostats, they don't get hot until you turn the fan WAY down. But you really don't need to do that, just crank it down till you can't hear it!

I'm using a 2w rheostat with the same fans as yourself, and it works fine.

I've got to ys 120's and a delta 38, and they are noisy!!

i use the radio shack 3w rheo's on my 120's, and they work like a charm. i turn them all the way down, but they tend to get real hot. the solution is to hang them in the airflow of the fan, does a great job!
