1stimer- pump questions

im putting together my first wc rig and i have a question on t he pump. i went down to a local pet store and found a 300 gph pump for $30...the only problem is that he says it has to be submersed in water or it will blow out. can anyone tell me if that is true.i would really like to get the pump.

What model is it? You can get a 370 GPH inline pump for $20 from aquastelath.com.

Yeah, dangerden or dtek have some 300gph inline pump thats also a fish tank brand. That 370gph pump would be the via aqua 1300.
