Hi guys,
I have a Compaq X09 gaming pc with an Asus P4C800E-Dlx motherboard and was wondering if you could flash the Compaq bios to an asus bios without any problems? I know that I would not be able to use the recovery cd that came with the computer but I could back-up the Compaq bios just in case. Oh by the way I don't have a floppy drive and I tried Asus LiveUpdate and it would not let me update the bios that way.
Thanks in advance.
IMO, yes, as long as its the same board, i think it will be okey.. jst make sure the bios chip is the same, compaq might have change it :)

How can I tell if they changed the bios chip? If I look at it it has a Compaq sticker on it
I don't see how it would not work, right?
I don't really have any experience with Compaq's p4p800 boards, but I know a lot of times they just add logos and stuff on to the original bios versions. If nothing else, at least ask their tech support. Hopefully they have competent (sp?) people working there. I'd try it myself and just flash back if there's any issues.

Thats what I think I am going to do. I have talked to their tech support and have not gotten very far so I am better off just trying it and seeing what happens. :D
Well, how did it work out? Keep us updated.

I just did it and it worked great so far!! :D The only thing is that when I rebooted after flashing I had to reactivate windows  No big deal though.
Now I am running the 1015 bios which recognizes my 3.2E with a 14 multi. So I am running 271FSB (so far) at 1:1 timings 2.5-4-4-7@2.85 volts. Sandra mem benchmark scores are around 6400. :attn:
Cool. Yeah, XP recognized the new hardware so asked for a reactivation. Glad I don't have to deal with that. As much as I change hardware, it would be a real pain. Glad it worked out for you. Now you have a real system!
