I have been waiting for an update on this project. How about posting a few pics for us? Any problems with condensation?

For the benefits of those on dial-ups, here's a pic of the completed item.

I seriously reccommend you visit this site at some time. It goes through the construction in amazing detail. ptcg, I take my hat off to you........

Thats's really cool , no that's icy!!:D :D

but wasn't there a guy who had his cpu at 0 c just using a lot of fans??

I don't remember but i think it was a P3 1 gh.
It's still on the forum somewere...

very nice job man, props to you

I remember seeing something about that a while ago.. I don't know how much truth there is in that though.. I've seen straight water-cooling rigs with major radiator/fan setups that only got about 10 degrees below ambient.

To go under ambient, you really need water, a TEC or something extreme like that. Straight air can only cool down to as cold as the air is, and even that is a major feat.

Very nice job on the refer unit!

It looks to me like there is one big thing you may have missed that could get your temps a lot cooler. Did you pull a vacume on the system before you filled it with R134a? It is very important to get the air and moisture out of the system before filling.

No, unfortuneately I don't have the equipment to do that yet.. I do know that it is supposed to be done, but I wasn't able to get it done.. That's another thing I'm working on right now.

It is possible to use an old refrigerator compressor as a make shift vacume pump for this purpose. If you are interested in the idea I can take a look around and see if I can find the site that I saw plans on a while back........I think I nay have it bookmarked someplace on one of my machines.

You could put enough fans in a case to propel it across the living room floor and it still wouldn't go below ambient. LOL

That's a good idea.. I'm sure I can get an old compressor.. Everyone around here has been throwing away old refrigerators all month! I'll have to rig one up and see how it works. thanks for the idea!

Forget the refer compressor for pulling a vacume. I think I found the ideal sollution! I am ordering one of these myself as I have to convert my truck from R12 to R134a. Just can't get R12 anymore, to bad because it was a better coolant.

Infact you get to a point at which extra airflow over the heatsink actually begins to heat the heatsink up due to friction of air mollecules, much like a space capsule on atmosphere re-entry. (Id like to see the fan that can provide this much air flow!!)

Man, that is so awesome, I'm going to look into doing something like that I have and old lil dorm refrigerator that would fit the bill just right!

You should submit this to oc.com for the artical contest :)

(about the 0 C with fans)

I don't have the time today , but as soon as i find the link ill post it here... I think the guy's P3 was at 7 c...or something like that.
but i think there is still a post in the case mod forum.

I checked the link for that vaccum pump.. Did u read the manual for it? You need to hook it up to a compressor, then to the refrigeration unit.. The compressor needs to put out 90PSI Min.

It looks like it would work, but I can make something similar at work and use their air compressor... Thanks for the link though... Let me know if you get it & how it works.

this is from "Mark" (a guest)

Whooohooo Pictures Of My Case Are Up!!!
I put them on my website.
The page does take a while to load, so be sure to let it load 100%.
This is a 4Q Full Tower, that I think I paid $47 + s/h.
I was trying to go for the custom but not flashy mod.
I'm not sure what to do next as I do NOT want to paint, add window, lights, or do water cooling. I think I might make a Baybus for all my fans.
Anyone know where I can get a few of the on/off switches I used for the compunurse mod? I used that one which was off a dead power supply.
Well, I hope you enjoy looking at my case. If you have any questions or compliments, or tips; post them here, or you can e-mail me.

Here is a lil preview of my case.

(dont know if its true, dont have time to check...)

found it , dont remenber how to put the quote...
enjoy:cool:

Shut the system down and install a liquid line dryer then pull a deep vac. down to 30 microns and you should be o.k. Remember moistier in the lineset is a nonecondensable and will eventually kill a compressor. Other than that you have a very cool system:cool:

You can get your stuff to 0 degrees with just fans. It relatively simple. You go into MBM, and you go to the temperature adjustment section.........

LOL, your setup looks funny :D hhehah

Anyway you did a great job, looks very cool, and I like how you documented your steps, maybe I'll try that when I get my 1.4ghz t-bird

This guy is running an 86w tec on a Alpha P3125 w\arctic silver. Thats why his Temps are so low. If you've got good air flow and big fans. And can exhaust all the air away from the cpu and out of the case. You can reach 0c very easily.
