Hi. I'm having trouble with a Hercules 3D Prophet 2 MX 32mb card.

I am experiencing general problems with the system (Duron 800 overclocked to 1ghz). It usually crashes trying to run games, and also crashes intermittently when browsing the internet. It either blue-screens on me, freezes solid, or I get kernel errors, but usually the error messages shown all seem to be related to the display.

Are there any specific parameters I should be aware of in the bios to get this card to run properly?

I have tried down-clocking the Duron to 800, and also disabling AGP4X, but neither helped.

I have also tried reinstalling the display drivers several times, and also reinstalling directx 8 and internet explorer 5.5.

I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers for this card and also downloaded the latest bios update and successfully flashed this as well. The problems persist.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've got the same card in 64meg flavour....

The best thing I ever did to it was put a fan on the heatsink. Even at stock speeds, they run hot......

It could well be heat is your problem, seeing as it's intermittant.....

Hmmm... it might be that, but I'm not overclocking it or anything.

I don't want to go to the expense of having to buy a fan for it unless I really have to. Is there any way I could tell if its running too hot?

When your computer is running in windows, take off your case and gently put your finger on the back of the gpu of your card. If it is extreamly warm ( nearly burning your finger! ) then you know its running too hot, and the best way to solve that is to go out and buy a fan ( Blue Orb seem to be the best ). My friend also had problems with his system, running a profit2, but I think it was his system that was running crapy.

Jeez! Why can't the graphics card manufacturers just make their damn cards with fans built in, if most of the time the cards run too hot. :-(
