View Full Version : 3DMark03 crashes from a Windows Error
Well, my 3dmark03 crashes to the desktop (after the second test) wiht one of those messages saying that windows has incurred an error, then asks me if I want to submit it. This isn't the type of error to indicate instability, though I did it when I was completely stock.
I have fast write off in the bios, and it shows as off in the control pannel too. I have VPU recover off as well.. what else... I am stuck really. The other day 3dmark03 was giving me an error message upon start it up, but I ended up reinstalling windows, so that message is no more (but I still cant run it) :-/ .
Could there be an incompatibility with some software running in the background? Thank you for your time.

You'll need to access your error logs, just like I had you do the last time when you were experiencing BSOD's. Same thing as before...post any critical error(s) that have been logged recently.
Yeah you are right, I should have thought of that, sorry

AFA the si3.dll error, it's a known issue on some systems, in particular with SP2 installed. Futuremark plans on correcting it in the next patch for 3DMark03. Regarding the Fault bucket error, what's the Event ID: number that's shown at the top of the Event window adjacent to Type: ?

So my problem should be fixed with their next patch? That is wierd that it only happens on some systems with SP2.
The EventID is 1001.
Thanks for all your help.

I should have had you check one more thing in the Event window...what does it say next to Source: ?
Source: Application Error

Do you have any of the software installed that's listed on this page?...
Programs that are known to experience a loss of functionality when they run on a Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=884130&product=windowsxpsp2
...or any of these drivers?
Device drivers known to cause instability in Windows XP Service Pack 2

Did you ever try removing one of the 512MB sticks of RAM? Remember me suggesting that there was a possiblity of a stability issue between the Epox 8KDA3J, 2x512 sticks of DS RAM, and SP2...in this thread re: BSOD's that you started:

It would be more helpful to us (at least myself) if you were to include things like your memory timings, OC, VC core and memory clocks, pertinent BIOS settings in general, PSU (make and model including voltages), etc. You've obviously got hardware/BIOS related issues (possibly even a software incompatibility issue w/ SP2), but until you provide us with more information about your rig...it's pretty much a guessing game afa what the problem may be.

Out of the program list: Norton Antivirus.
Drivers:none.
About the ram, I spoke to reps @ OCZ and @ Epox, and they said the ram should not be a problem of incompatibility. The only thing they said was that one may achieve higher OCs with only 512, which I am not concerned with.
Memory timings are completely stock (8-2-3-3), Everything is stock right now, except for video, which I am somewhere around 500/500. The voltages are 2.8vdimm, 1.6vcore (won't run @ 1.55 bc it undervolts, POS epox). If there is anything else I can tell you, just let me know.

Since Norton Antivirus is on the list of incompatible programs, I would suggest removing it. There's a number of free AV programs available which IMO work just as well if not better than NAV...the one I use, and always recommend to people is AVG from Grisoft. Even though the board and memory manufacturers noted that there were no compatibility issues re: SP2, I would still suggest removing one stick of RAM...if removing NAV doesn't resolve your problems. Like I mentioned before, there are some folks that have run into stability problems with 2x512 sticks of RAM and your specific board.
ok here is a fix for u but dont ask how it works i have the same sapphire card ,x800 pci express i could not get it to work so i made my own fix. first go into your c:\windows\system32\futuremark\msc directory and rename any direcpll.dll files you find there to direcpll.old. next download the direcpll.dll patch on this site and instead of putting it where they tell you, put it in the c:\program files\futuremark directory and overwrite the one that is there . the program will now run . sp2 has nothing to do with it except that if you install the direcpll.dll file in the any windows folder like c:\windows\system32 sp2 will block that file till you right click on it and pick unblock, that is a new security feature that was implemented to help us fight off spyware that gets installed in our machines. no file that comes from another computer that goes into the windows directory is accessable until you pick to unblock it. hope this helps you it fixed my problem i dont even have direcpll.dll in my windows directory anymore instead of renaming it i just delted it outta there .
Here is what a user has said at the futuremark forums... maybe this will fix my 3mark03 problem?
Prbolem Fixed
There was an incompatibility issue with Norton Anti Virus and SP2, which caused 3Dmark03 to crash. Getting ridd of NAV and cleaning the Registry made this go away. Thanks for your help redduc900.
btw, that quote from my last post didn't fix the prob, I tried it and got the same error.
