I was about to order a 160gig Seagate 7200.7 SATA Hard Drive from New Egg when I saw this below it "Seagate 160GB Barracuda 7200.7 7200RPM SATA II with NCQ Hard Drive, Model ST3160827AS which is supposed to give "Up to 20 percent performance improvement over previous SATA, 100 percent software compatible with existing PCs."

I found on the Seagate site that this hard drive outperforms the Raptor 10k: http://www.seagate.com/cda/new...le/0,1121,2102,00.html

I was planning on ordering a Epox 8KDA3J 754 Motherboard but I dont think it supports NCQ. Actually I dont think any of the 754 Motherboarss do.

Do you guys think the SATA II will still outperform the older SATA without NCQ support or should I save $8 and purchase the older model?

First I would try to find some reviews because I highly doubt that it will outperform a Raptor

Thats the problem, this thing is brand new and most retailers dont even offer it.

As far as it outperforming the Raptor I dont think it does either, but if it outperforms the 1st gen 7200.7 then it would be worth the extra $8.

The drive won't straight out beat a raptor in everything but it can beat a raptor in somethings. I've got the older 7200.7 drives and they are fast. This newer one is even faster than that if you pair it with something like the ICH5R. My friend has 2 of them on a ICH5R even without SATA II support it still gives pretty impressive numbers for a 7200PRM drive. If you MUST have raptor speed then get a raptor but If you want something close then this is the route to go.
