I am having this problem.

I was using a 1.33Ghz Tbird, running 1406 at 1.750 Volts.

My temperatures with a stock crappy cooler master, were about 55C.

So I bought a new Glaciator and my temp didnt move down :( still around 55C sometimes after hours of use it hits almost 60C.

I rechecked the installation of the heatsink, it's surface was perfect, arctic silver was used as the compound, and only a very thin layer was applied.

My Case is open, I have one 120MM Fan just behind the cpu, there is nothing else obstructing the air flow.

My Ambient temp is a bit high, around 85-90 F, 35C, I live in california.

I was so upset at the temperatures that when I was removing the heatsing and putting it back on, I cracked the die of the cpu, so for now I am awaiting my new 1.4Ghz replacement.

So the question remains why would the cpu be running so hot? Can there be just bad cpu's period that run super hot? The cpu was a bit old one of the first 1.33Ghz on the market, dont remember the stepping of top of my head. Can the MB report temp's incorrectly?

I was using a Abit A7A mb.

What should be normal temps at full load with 35C ambient be? and does more airflow in the case improve it?

any and all comments appreciated.

I also live in California - in the high desert of Los Angeles County. With electric rates they way they are, I don't run the A/C during the day - so the temps in my computer room are about 85 - 90f. My system, 1.4 @ 1.628 1.8v, Swiftech MC462A, full load running seti@home 24/7, the CPU temp stays right around 44 - 46c. At idle, CPU temp averages between 30 and 32c.

You have a good HSF, and with an open case, your temps at idle shouldn't exceed 40c, and at load 50c.

Some of the older chips do run hot. I have a week 9 chip and it just runs hotter than most 1 giggers I have seen with this kind of cooling. You just have to work harder to get the temps down.

Were you checking the temps in the bios or with a program?
