View Full Version : AMD Palomino
Just a few questions about this new chip. When will it be available to the public?
It will be at 1.53 and 1.6 speeds at first right?
How expensive will they be? I know MPs are pretty expensive now, but i think thats just because its just dual proc capable. WIll they be like as expensive as tbirds are now?
Will they overclock well? I heard they run at a lower voltage which = less heat. but that doesnt always mean better overclock. Will they be able to overclock like tbirds can?

i hear they will launch on Sept 9, they will indeed start at 1.52 and 1.6, i think theyll start around $200 but drop when intel goes up past 2ghz.
i believe intel has already done 2.0 ghz...
They have :)
I don't know if it's in stores right now, but I know it's definitely been launched.
Yes, all indications point to Sept 9 (If Mad Mike Mcgee's AMD leak is sound).

Intel plans to release the 3.2 gig P4 in the third quarter of 2002. I like AMD as i own one, but when will they wake up the smell the Intel?????
Even a Palomino at 2.2 cant catch a P4 Northwald at 3.2 - relaisticaly speaking. Right now my 1.496 matches a P4 2gig. But for how long??
AMD should take a lesson in the core cover from Intel and provide it with a metal cover so that crushed cores can be prevented.

yeah and they will probably be around $2,000 bucks or more.
Athlons run so hot they can't afford to put an additional layer of material between heatsinks and cores. My 1.4 is burning in at 1.61 and at +0.2v and it's running 48C.
