I was bored one day an I was lookin into my computer at my modem. So I reached my hand into my case avoiding the many fans :D an felt the square chip on my modem that was hot. Well, being bored as I was I decided to make a HSF for my modem. I had some spare aluminum strips from my 92mm fan adapter I made so I bent it some, added some screw holes an added a 40mm fan I had layin around. Here's a pic of what I came up with:

Ok, I supose your wondering by now if it made any diffrence in performance. It sure did make a diffrence, but not the kinda diffrence I wanted it to make. I now connect at 45.3kbs instead of the 49.3-50.6kbs I used to connect at without the heatsink. I felt the heatsink to see if it was even warm an it wasn't. Hmmm, maybe the fan is a little to much I'm thinking.
I couldn't have this :(, so I riped out that fan and redesigned the heatsink so it will be just passive with a single fin. Heres a pic:

This time around I added a vary small drop of silver OCZ thermal paste to the middle of the heatsink an glued it on. This time around I noticed I connect back at 49.3-50.6kbs now instead of the 45.3kbs I was getting with the fan. I felt the heat sinks fin an it was warm, so it must be doin its job. Now was this all worth it, probly not but remember I was bored. LOL :D
Btw, anyone else try something like this with their modem??
