I got nero vision, which allows you to burn AVIs files to a DVD automaticly converting the files.

When I load a ~750meg AVI file into nero vision it shows that it takes up the whole ~4.7 GIGs is this nessisary because of timing or is there a way around this gheyness

PLEASE someone let me know. It would be ideal to burn 5 movies to each DVD not just one.

Hehe, you gone mixed up in this ehh?

Well, simple explination for the huge size increase. DVD's/SVCD's/VCD's/A all depend on the length of the movie, not the MB itself.

For help converting things to DVD, goto http://club.cdfreaks.com or the specific Guide forum on conversions, here http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=66

Hope that helps

www.videohelp.com its usefull too. But really avi movies are NOT that small, those are probably divx or xvid movies and that means mpeg4. DVD movies use mpeg2 compression technology, in order for the movie to still look high cuality it needs to be larger in size. Its like comparing an mp3 to a way file, the wav file is uncompressed and easier on the processors, just like dvd movies are.

If your DVD player supports Divx playback you could always just burn a bunch of Divx/Xvid movies to 1 DVD (in their original format). That would be cool.

The DVD encoding software will usually encode to mpeg2 format from avi, with a much higher bitrate than the source avi file (assuming the avi file is compressed). You do not get a better picture than the source. As far as I know, the best you can get is a slightly inferior new video stream.

I would use software to determine the bitrate of the original avi file, then when you convert the avi file to a DVD, drop down the bitrate to long play or super long play (2meg/s to 3meg/s) to lessen the size of the new dvd.

Aye, DVD's with movies burn in Minutes just like your Video Recorder.

i have Nero aswell, you can set a quality slider in one of the menus ;) when its set at max, it will take up insane amounts, so play around with it :)

Regarding burning 5 movies on a dvd, all you need to do is lower the bitrate down to Super Long Play on Nero (around 1.6meg/s), assuming your avi's are not 50 hours long.

You can make a menu for the 5 videos. It works great!
