Windows 2000 hangs on long out and it didn't used to i don't know what happened. it getpassed the saveing settings screen but then never shuts down what should i do.

For starters you may want to try defragging your drive. Might help, might not.

Secondly, if it's not too late in the shutdown process, hit CTRL+ALT+DEL to get the Task Manager and see what processes are still running and if any are taking especially large amounts of resources...this may be an indication of a program or service that is hangin up.

All I can think of right now until you try those two out.

It is too late in the shutdown process and my drive defrags itself every night at 4 am so that isn't aprob ethier although i did it anyways
thanks for the advice got any more ideas???

Something that is loading on startup I'd guess. Look there.

yea probably a program in the background. Are you running an anti virus program? If yes, which one?

Also there are no startup task ( i just checked)

Some motherboards do this. My BP-6 did this, and so does my VP-6. It has never done this on my VP until this last 2000 load. Some of the older Dell's that we are upgrading at work are doing this also.

It has something to do with the ACPI. I don't know what friggin moron invented ACPI but I would personally like to kick his ass.

It won't hurt anything. Yes it's annoying, but it won't hurt.
