I just put together a system for my dad:

Abit NF7-2 v2
Athlon XP 2200+
512mb DDR333 Mushkin Green
Zalman HS on NB
Asus Nvidia GeForce Ti 300
Sound Blaster Value
3com NIC
WD SATA 80 gb HDD
HP CD-Writer CDRW
Generic floppy drive
Volcano 7 on CPU
Seconday HDD that has my dad's old stuff on it with win ME set up as CS on IDE1

XP Home

I think thats it, but I'm stressed out.

So I installed everything, it all worked, everything, windows was running, it was done! I don't know what happened! I had just put in the secondary HDD, and checked to see if it worked, and it did. I then activated XP.

Turned off computer

I put the HDD chassis in the case, and organized the wires, then put the case side cover on and set it upright (was on its side)

Now It wont start up. The casefan (not cpu fan) twitches, and the infra red flickers. I was to angry to think of anything to do. I went through and took the second HDD out, checked the connections on everything, even tried resetting the CMOS. Ughh I don't know what it is! My dad's expecting this computer to be up tomorrow, because It was running 15 minutes ago! I'm so stressed, help!!

Just take it all apart and put it back together again. Make sure the motherboard's not grounding out on the back of the case.

Make sure the CPU fan is connected to the header.

Disconnect everything except the PSU, vid card, and SATA, and see if you can boot. If not, disconnect the HDD also and see if you can POST.

Did you happen to flip the switch on the back of the PSU when you were standing it up. The symptoms you describe match exactly what I get when I turn off that switch to fiddle inside a rig and forget to flip it back on.

Well, I took it apart and put it back together, and it starts now, but it's not detecting ANY IDE drives, it wont go past the start up screen where you can hit del to go to setup, but it wont let me use the keyboard at all. I cant turn numlocks on or anything, and thus cant get into setup. I reset the cmos and nothing. :(

EDIT:

I find that if i hit DEL before it tries to detect IDE drives I can get into setup. But I can't boot at all from anything (of course) Flash Bios? It's v 6.00

try using only the boot hard drive and make sure its set to cable select. if that works then try disconnecting the cd rom and using the second hard drive on the second ide channel and make sure thats set to cable select as well. if everything works then you must of had jumpers set wrong.

2 things.

1) You should never use cable select, and instead set jumper settings correctly manually. Read the instructions on the HDD sticker for correct settings, or refer to the manufacturers website. If you use cable select, and do not have a special cable select IDE cable, it WILL NOT work.

2) Your boot drive is not jumpered if it is SATA. If the IDE drive was not connected when you installed windows, leave it out now. See if the SATA drive is being recognized at all.

3) I wans't going to mention this, but I will now. When you connect your IDE drive, connect it on the end of the IDE cable, not in the middle. Set its jumper to MASTER setting.

Do you have an internal speaker? My RAM is twitchy when I move or rotate my PC. Often times I have to be gentle otherwise they knock out of position giving me a DIMM siren and no POST. If its half way out it gives symptoms that you described.

Give your RAM a jiggle and or reseat them. That should do the trick.

I had the same problem as you with a different board, the whole cpufan twitching and mobo lights blinking once, then dead. Oddly enough, my problem was with a fan that I had installed. It was so dead that it was affecting the power supply, or maybe there was a short in that particular fan's wire that was touching the case. I dunno.
However, as this was a pc I found laying on the side of the road (P1-166 mhz oh Yeah!), I'm guessing that isn't your problem.

However, the Abit NF7s have their mobo speaker built-in, so you should be getting some noise, some beeps that is, that are supposed to tell you what's wrong.

If you're not even getting that, then either your mobo or your power supply is dead, is my guess.

Hope this helps.
