I have a Lite-On DVD-ROM drive that's about 3 years old, I only use it to play dvd's though, but it does its job.

I'd go w/ the ASUS or SONY players. TOP NOTCH!!!!
I've been extremely satisfied w/ both for their optical drives. When I've gone w/ some other brands (cheaper looking prices), I've been very dissapointed w/ the noise and more.

Also, watch what you get w/ 'em. I usually buy from Newegg.com and often the ASUS will come w/ some software :)

I have a Lite-On DVD ROM drive and it has worked flawlessly for 3 years now. I went ahead and bought a Lite-On DVD Burner this last X-mas as well and it works great also. The only thing that I would have to complain about at all would be initial load times on the ROM drive, its not that it is slow, but it just takes a couple of seconds before it initializes the disc. I have owned several different Lite-On drives and they have all worked great.

I had a pioneer dvd 106s for about a year until it stopped playing dvd's and eventually cd's. Moved on to a LiteOn and it lasted only 6 months falling to the same fate as the pioneer. Now using a LG and it's still working after 4 months.

I've used a LiteOn DVD-ROM drive for about two years without any trouble from it. Except for an older TDK VeloCD CD writer, all my opticals are LiteOn, and have served me quite well.

I've got a Lite-On DVD-ROM that's served me very well. It's currently having issues with reading some DVD-Rs I'm trying to make, but it might just be the media... Other than that, I love the thing :) Even reads CDs my CD Burner won't :D

I originally got a DVD-Rom for my PC about 3 years ago, a Samsung. I couldn't afford the Pioneer slot DVD drive at the time (I had the Pioneer slot CD-Rom drive, so wanted it to match, heh), so I figured I'd just replace it with a Pioneer when the Samsung died.

Well, the Samsung's still going strong (and so is the Pioneer slot CD-Rom drive, which is now nearly 7 years old, heh).

I have a 3-4 year old Lite-on DVD-rom, It has to be the slowest thing on my rig. And it's really loud when it spins up to read a CD, but Lite-On could have better products by now.
