View Full Version : Need a heat sink
I have an old Socket 7 P1 133MHz that I want to use for Linux, but I don't have a heatsink for it. Can anyone recommend a heatsink that'll work on a socket 7?

Does it even need one? I had an old Pentium 150 that had a small heatsink and fan on it but I think they may be able to work with just a strategically placed fan blowwing right on the cpu. The HSF (if you can call it that) on my 150 was no better than the Northbridge sctive cooler on my Abit KT7 Raid. Hey, there's an idea, get a chipset cooler!

I was thinking about a chipset cooler, too. Tennmax (www.tennmax.com) makes some, but I didn't know if any of them would fit. Guess it's time to bust out the ruler, and get it's dimentions, and see if Tennmax has anything to match that.
Thanks.

socket 7 heatsinks are the same as socket 370 heatsinks, it is easyer to get hold of socket 370 heatsinks

You know, you might want to check an electronics surplus store like http://www.allelectronics.com. I think I saw some smaller heatsink and fan combos there.

Actually, I found one at tennmax for $14 with $5 shipping. I was going to get one for my GF2, as well, since they have them there, and shipping is $5 for the first item, and $1.50 for every other. The s7 HSF is $14, and the GPU HSF is $19. But thanks for the suggestions!
here it is mounted,
this thing is awesome.
sounds like the delta 38 hit puberty:)

O
Not bad. Much cheaper than the tennmax. I might actually get that one instead. Thanks.

Sound exactly like mine. I have it here with me if you want me to post the info off it. But I'd just like that extra insurance.
