I have T-Bird 1.333 with Asus a7a266 motherboard using Thermal Take Valcano II heatsink. I was running older bios(1002b). I just upgraded to the lastest bios(1006). With the old bios, when I go into the Bios to see what the temperature of cpu is, it's usualy around 52c (after playing QuakeIII for an hour). Now with the new bios, it's at 60c. Everything is the same except updating the new bios. Any know why????

perhaps it is a more accurate reading, dont trust mobo readings anyway, use a windows program such as mbm

I was told by the tech support from Asus that the new bios "should" have run the cpu cooler. But they do not know why it's running hotter. That's what I was expected from tech support.
Is quake running any faster?
It may have increased the bandwidth to the chip.
Or it may be giving a more accurate result or turned off the chip idle functions

Actually I was reporting 60c after I flashed my bios. After rebooting I did not play QuakeIII, just went in Windows to make sure everything work. Rebooted and went into the bios, the temp was between 59.5c to 60c.
so thats basically 60oC at idle which sounds like acpi has been turned off or something not sure how to fix it you'll need someone who knows about your board for that or mention this to asus
