Which is better? ME or 2000?

I do know that 2000 is miles ahead of ME with stability and performance, but which of the two performs better in terms of getting a good 3d score? My friend went from 98se to 2000 and said it increased his score by around 400 3d marks ( 2001 ). But another of my friends said that ME will give you a better 3d score. What is the correct answer?:confused:

it depends on the configuration of your system
could be a difference in the OS or drivers
for me personally win2k runs faster in 3d than 98 or ME
but for others ive noticed it the other way around

the only way to be sure is to try it yourself

2000 is better. Even if ME gets betten scores is a pain and a half to work with. 2000 is very stable and all my friends get really good performance from their games with it. Go with 2000 or wait for xp.:rolleyes:

Dam it! Didn't realy want to do that, but I guess that I'll have to. I am currently running ME and boy, does it ever have a licence to crash! I'm wondering what the new windows OS is like? ( it is called XP I think?? ). Wonder how it compares to 2000 and ME. Hopefully it gives even more 3d marks that the other two.

i would go with win2k ... i worked with it for a long time now and it never crashes ... im serious ... and if your explorer crashes ... just log off and get back in (no restart)

I say this all the time, but stuff windoze, use Linux. I get about 1400 FPS for the gears demo and I never even get a flicker in Q3 arena!!!

I believe that u mean 140fps as 1400 fps is impossibe for any card much less a MX..LOL

Using 3DMark, on 3 different os's, on the same system each time, at stock speed, we found that we got the higher scores in 98se, Millenium, then 2K Pro. In that order. Benched both AMD, and Intel based systems with the same setup, except for CPU, and MB (of course)., and we consistantly got the same results, or within 100 points of the others.

Just check out http://www.lokigames.com for what is available in the way of linux games.

If you have to choose between ME and W2K go with W2K hands down. I also run XP but there is no real advantage to it over W2K and there is the registraion stuff to deal with. You know us people here we are always changing our systems, reformating...... it will be a pain dealing with MS over this. W2K rocks as far as windows goes.
