View Full Version : Can you have too much water?

I have a "bong" cooler but instead of having my pump at the base of the tower I cut off the bottom and made my tower fall into a cooler (yeah like a cooler you take on a picnik) where I have my pump sitting. I had to do this cause I couldnt fit the pump inside the 4" diameter tubing of the tower.

Any way so I have the cooler completely filled with water for the most part which is nice cause I can go weeks without having to add water.

Only problem of course is that the water that comes out of the cooling tower is nice and cool, but then it sits in this cooler forever before it is used again. Bong coolers are supposed to maybe let you get below ambient but I dont see how that could happen in my case when the water has so much time to heat back up to room temp before its used again?

Sorry to type so much but does this make any sense? I idle at about 26-28 C but it takes a LONG time to get to 26 C. 28 is where it usually sits.

hey kibler I built the bong tower today too and used the 4" piping I can't fit the pump in too, is there a way to make the water drain into some other container?

My problem is to mount the tower somehow above the container

I guess u should use less water and fill it with fresh water more frequently then...

But could u please answer my question too?

If you're using a cooler as a reservoir the water should stay pretty cool until it's used. Maybe a good thing to do would be to fill the cooler with ice water the first time you use it.

Yeah I have thought about putting some ice water in or a few cubes but I am very scared of any condensation that might form on the water block/cpu! It would only boost performance for a little while at best anyway.

"The Coolest" I just cut a hole (very nasty one) in the top of a large cooler I have....here is a bad pic of the setup but you get the idea....wasnt going for looks here lol

You can barely make out where the tubing goes through the wall into the other room with the pc in it! Now thats a silent pc!

LOL!!!

Does the pipe touches the buttom of that container?

I'm working on something similar now (except with a 5-gallon bucket instead of a cooler) and I'm interested in how the bottom of your pipe looks. Is it raised off the bottom of the cooler somehow?

I have been seriously thinking of something along these lines, however, I have a slight variation I am going to try.

Basically, my evaporative cooler will look like a big L from the front, designed to set the CPU case in the opening of the L. The water would spray from a modified pipe (lots of little holes) from the top of the L, and would fall the length. There would be vents along the bottom, just before the resivoire portion (the bottom of the L). My pump will be in the resivoire, (still can't spell today) and it would be overall pretty simple to make.

Thoughts/suggestions? I'll make a sketch if anyone's intersted.

I'm not sure I follow you . . . by 'vents at the bottom' do you mean that you'll be venting some of your vapor immediately above the reservoir waterline? Are you worried about splashing your coolant out these vents?

Maybe I'm not following you, please post a sketch.
