Hey guys im new to the forums. I am currently trying (ratteling my brains out ) trying to find some cheap parts to build a new computer from scratch. I live in Australia so if u guys could give me some australian quotes on how much it could be an a link would be fantasic if you could get me 1.
i only have $1000 to spend. i cant go any higher, If wat i have down the bottem is going to go over can u guys give me a link to something that will suite what i want?. Im after a good p/c to run games like warcraft 3 , counter strike.. but i dont think i will be running doom3 though :/

MOBO: Gigabyte K8NSPro (Nforce3) or something around that power.. can be less just wateva can fit in budget..

CPU:Im after an amd 2.6gig+ cpu

GFX CARD: Either a FX 5900 Series card or Ati 9600 ++ something around those lines.

HDD: a 40gig or 80 gig would do .. wateva is good for how much money i got.. preferbly a SATA.

Memory:
1GB Dual Giel PC3200 (DDR 400) or 512 wateva is better for how much money i have.

CASE: Antec 1085 (Comes with 480 True power PSU) But any case would do. Im probably after a case with clear sides so eventually i can buy some neons for it ^^.

i dont need a DVD rom cause i already have a dvd burner. If anyone can reply to this it would be much appreciated. And if u could give me a link to where i could buy this from or where i could get something like it plz post. Thank u so much for your help.
Cheers

Hey, I dunno much about shopping in your neck of the woods, but I will watch the thread incase there is something I can contribute... I don't know how $1000 AUS translates to american or anythign though so it is hard for me to suggest.

I would get a mobile athlon 2500+ for a CPU if I was on a budget... What system do you have now?

Or do you want an A64 AMD processor?

I would definetly say 1gig is worth your money. I'm not up on what the hottest RAM is these days, but I know there are those around here who do know who will surely be around to suggest what is best for you.

Thanks for the PM, welcome to the forums. :)

KOMUSA.com has some great 1GB dual-channel high speed kits. For about 190$, you can get a top-of-the-line DDR466 1GB kit, and for about 30$ less get the generic brand.
The Nforce3 is AMD64 only, wheras the Nforce2 is Athlon Xp only. There is really no difference in performance insofar, although the newer chipsets offer some sweet features and let you use the power of the AMD64 processor.
If I were you, I would get a 9800 Pro. At about 190$ USD, a Sapphire 256bit (remember, get 256 bit cards) 9800 Pro is a great deal, and can be overclocked nicely.
The case is great.
If you want to go AMD64, I reccomend a 2800+ processor, which is about 130$ USD, and Chaintech Nforce3 250 motherboard, which is about 75$. The Chaintech and 2800+ will overclock nicely, and they're both excellent deals.
In the way of HDD's.... Make sure you get a SATA model with 8mb of cache. Samsung has a 160GB drive of this variety for 90$ USD, and a WD 80GB drive similar to it would be about 65$.
In the way of cooling, go with a Thermaright SLK948U heatsink with Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste and a Panaflo or Vantec Tornado fan. This will let you overclock the 2800+ by 500mhz or more.
A word of caution: Cold Cathode (neon) lights have a nasty tendency to have their power inverters explode. Instead, go for some glow-tape (17$ USD for 2 feet) or a bunch of cheapie LED's wired to a seperate 3v power supply ripped off of something at a garage sale. Trust me, it's safer.
