View Full Version : Millenium Glaciator or OCZ Glaciator?

I've got both these HSFs and the OCZ is the one from SVS and it performs well but I also have the Millenium which I never see any reviews on.I was wondering if anyone knows anything or knows where to find a review about it?The OCZ is really a pain to put on and take off(already chipped my AXIAR Y 1gig)so unless I find something or some info on the Millenium Glaciator saying it may outperform the OCZ than I'm gonna leave it be.Please post if you know anything I am ready to put this system together but only want to do it one more time.Thank you!

First the HSF you have is the Gladiator [I believe] not the Glaciator and depending on who you hear any info on this you will get different reports on which is better, ive heard both are very close to each other and ive heard by different people that each one gave better results, i'm happy with my Gladiator and if you have the Delta you cab do the silicone trick to help cut the noise way down. as far as the clip on the Gladiator I get the one side clipped in then set the HSF on the CPU die holding it flat then you should just be able to gently push the clip on, I was not real happy about the clip at first and i did not like the way the HSF could rock on the die [but mines Intel] but it does hold it flat and its doing a great job at keeping my CPU around 30C at full load. When taking off the HSF use something to pry the clip outward when you push down on the clip and it pops rite off.

One note if you do have the Gladiator fron SVS [same place i got mine] It really needs a good lapping as the finish on the bottom leaves allot to be desired.

Glaciator is much better, at least according to oc.com and they use the most reliable testing out there.

On the Gladiator(the one from SVS) the clip to push down on broke as I was putting it on the first time thats what chipped my AXIA so it's really a pain in the butt to take off & put back on.I do have the delta(I think, is it just black on top w/no writing?) but I didn't hear about the silicone trick. Also I heard that if you've never lapped a sink before that you should not mess with it because it's really tricky. Is this true or is it fairly easy?I am very mechanically inclined. If it was explained how to do I am sure I can do it.Thanks for the replies!

from what ive read is all you need is a flat surfae (such as glass) and wet/dry sandpaper with grits varying from 600-1500 and you switch between wet and dry sanding, then to finish to a shine dry sand with 1500....it seems pretty simple, im going to try it when i get home....

i wouldn't go with EITHER of them...the SK6 has consistantly outperfomed them, even though most tests were using the lesser fan...mine has a Delta Black Label from my FOP38, dropped my temps by 10C....I LIKE IT, I LOVE IT

I have to post.

from all reports the millenium may be a Little better than the OCZ / SVC. also the SK6 may be a little better than the OCZ / SVC, It wasn't when i tested it, but others have gotten better results, so let's say both of these HS's are a little better than the OCZ / SVC.

but if you already own the SVC, keep it. you won't find enough of an improvement to justify a nearly $40.00 purchase. anyone who responds otherwise is full of it. all of the copper coolers are pretty good.

now if you could get the alpha 8045 or the swifty 462 for $40.00 mb then it would be worth it. not for the millenium or the SK6.

I currently have the Golden Gate 40 on my AYHJA-Y. My MC462 did not outperform the Golden Gate by THAT much, though maybe it's just the slightly lower ambient. Certainly it doesn't justify the ...what... 40 dollar greater purchase? I just wish my MC462 wasn't shorting out my motherboard. I still have to get that fixed.

i also have found that the swifty doesn't outperform by that much, but it has other advantages, better mounting system, looks good and you get bragging rights :).

also, you got more headroom. you can get more fan on a swifty and it does perform better w/ more fan.

but overall, i agree, the svc GG is a very nice hs. hard to justify buying a more expensive one if you already have that one.

I have the Millenium on there now but my temps are 46c and thats not even full load! What the heck,I don't have any room to OC.It's at default voltage.I'm gonna try the SVC fan

I have a Millennium Glaciator and it has worked very well for me and I'm very impressed with the HSF. For the money, the Glaciator is top notch,

your not going to break your core putting a glaciator on as the clip is so easy to use. I would also expect it to offer better performance as long as your case cooling is up to scratch

Wow you must have been really pushing hard to break the clip, i'm sure it needed it which leaves me to believe maybe you had a bad clip, ive taken mine on and off a few times but never had to force anything to get it to work, about lapping the Gladiator with a flat piece of glass start with 400grit use soap and water do figure 8 pattern's until you can see that its flat then hit it with some 600 for a while until the finish is even and your done, its not that hard just dont take off more material then needed.

Waiw, hold on,esperar, Which is the Gladiator and which is the Glaciator?I was under the impression that it was the Millenium Glaciator and the OCZ Gladiator.

sorry got lost thought you only had the one, but the lapping will be the same for both. The Gladiator has the fan on top and its exsposed the Glaciator has the fan inside a shroud. You can find the silicone trick in the tips section under cooling heat sink and fan reviews.

Well, I think (via the testing done here by JoeC) that the Glaciator is a proven winner... I saw the OCZ gladiator (well, the same HSF, there are several clones out there) down at Hypertech computers in Lenexa and I was thoroghly unimpressed with it. You have to put a really ballsy fan on that thing for it to work well. I've got an SK6 on order with the YS Tech 40 CFM'er, and it'll be the fan that stays on my TBird. When I go for my dual Morgan/DDR setup I'm going with the new Alpha 8045. All indicators look for Alpha to rock the cooling world once again. Plus, it's got a similar mounting system to the Swifty and hopefully it will be a little less expensive.

For now I'm going to work on getting a few more CFM pumped through my case, and tweaking out that SK6.

I'm waiting for some one to have the guts to release an 80mm copper sink :)
with a mini winch to install it.

I can't voice an opinion on the Glaciator/Gladiator/SK6 issue, but I've written up a couple of articles on the Glaciator:

http://www.overclockers.com/tips615/

http://www.overclockers.com/articles433/

So far, I've used this on everthing it wasn't designed for (AMD Socket "A") lol It really is a top notch HSF. The mounting clip. as Phil mentions, is very easy to work with. I've been quite pleased with the results I've gotten with mine.

Phil, AZZKICKER got a Glaciator, and modded it to use the fan from a Delta 38. He said it works ever better..=) What about putting a 60 to 80mm "fanadapter" on the top of the Glaciator?? I think making the heatsink any bigger than it is would really stress compontentry mounting it, but it would be interesting to see how one would do with a high output 80mm fan.....

I have a slot 1 system so theres no room for another fan on my glaciator, I could squeeze another fan on top but tha would block 2 dimms, and a duct would block them all

So you've got the Glaciator slotket mounted too? Works pretty good, doesn't it? =)

yeah it works great, especially as it leaves all three dimms free.

Where do you get the SK6 HSF??? I have a rather wimpy copper HSF that runs me 45 in idle and about 48-50 under load.

and that is with all 13 fans in my case now... I addedd 3 last night.

I am on ICQ #6733016 if you could send me the comments directly.
