I bought my AMD Athlon 1.2 and the place I ordered it from
recomended the ThermalTake Volcano II. ME not knowing any
better  I said, OK. Is this HSF good enough for
overclocking?

Hi ArAgOrN, wellcome to the Forum,
the best way to go is the Thermalright SK6 or the Millenium Glaciator, both made of copper, and always a thin layer of thermal paste.
I hope it helps you ;)

If you did not want to overclock - the Volcano II would probably do you fine. But since you say you want to overclock it, The Doors suggestion is sound. Get the ThermalRight SK6 or a Millenium Glaciator or a Global Win CAK38. These HSF assemblies will be a little louder than the Volcano - but excellent for cooling your overclocked CPU.
What to do with the Volcano? - one suggestion is they make a descent paper weight.

Good choice. If you don't have any Artic Silver II - get some. That is the best thermal grease on the market.

When I got my 1.33 birdy @ a Comp show it came with a Volcano-II, it was ok for stock but could not handle the O/C.
So I got a SK6w/Delta, but had to lap it because it was not true flat.
So if you do O/C it get a better HSF.
Good O/Cing.

Yes I have a question, I looked at the specs on the sk6, and the rpm's are not that high. For the duran I thought you needed around 6000 rpms. It seems like the Dragon Orb would be better they have three to choose from. I need one that runs at lease 6000 rpm, and the sk6 is only around 5400. The dragon has 7200 rpm. I am looking for a good, no better than good heatsink, and I read that if you reverse the fan to blowing in, instead of blowing out that it would make your cpu cooler, has anyone tried it, and with what results. It does make sense, but I just wonder.

I got my 1.4 at a comp show and the vendor gave (read: SOLD) me some POS generic hsf that wouldn't even keep the CPU stable at 1400. I think that it was about a week before I ordered my gladiator with a delta screamer.
I have test the Volcanno II HSF and found it runs approx 5 C cooler than the the stock AMD fan that came with my retail box 1 G Tbird. That's not saying much as the stock AMD fan is total junk. I would recommend that you look to a higher performance HSF combo just for inproved system reliability.

well I will look into the sk6, but I think I am going to try the dragon orb. I has a higher rpm. But have you heard anything about reversing the fan, so instead of blowing out it blows in on the cpu. It sort of makes sense, but I'm not sure that it would work. Has anyone tried it? I know my cpu is on the warm side, I have two system fans, one blowing in from the back, and one taking the warm air out from the front. I have a heat sink on my cpu, but it's not that good, iI think that is my problem. So I plan this week to get me one, but I want to be sure, they are between 30 to 60 dollars, so I want to get the right one. Let me know if the reverse is better.

deedoe56,
Fan RPM has no bearing on it's cooling ability. The airflow is the main factor. I have a hedgehog with a 4500rpm fan and it cools 100x better than a delta 7000rpm fan. the delta is rated at 38cfm but my 4500 rpm fan is rated at 47cfm.
