So out of no where my mom calls yesterday and just absolutely made my day. She asks me "What was that thing for your computer you were talking about? x800-something?"

"Yeah X800 series video cards. Why what's up?" I said.

"Well I was going to buy you one, you seemed to really want one, but I can only find the one that says pro for sale. Is this it?" (At this point I **a* myself)

"Well there's a few, that's one of them. The best one is the x800xt pe."

"Oh yeah that's what it was the xt, I've been seeing them but they are out of stock at the places I've looked, it was suppose to be a surprise but I had to call and ruin it because I have no idea what I'm looking for really. So where can we get the xt one?"

OK I'll stop there. I passed out at that point anyways. I'm 25, I don't live with my mother and she rarely does anything like this. I must have done something right recently.

Anyways what I wanted to ask you guys is this. I run an Abit IS7 w/ P4 2.4c 1GB Kingston Hyper x PC3200 (2x512) and I use an Antec TP 430w.

Do I need an x800xt or xtpe? I'm not sure if my CPU might be a bottleneck and deny me the full potential of a card like that.

Should I save her some money and just go with the pro? Or is my system good enough to use the XT? I did just get an SP-94 and I'm planning to OC the CPU but I don't want to make the mistake of buying a card that's too good for my system.

yer cpu might be a slight bottleneck untill you oc it! but id get the xt if i was in your shoes.

Thanks Drec that's what I'll do then. If anyone happens to see a Saphire x800xt or an ATI made xt (AGP) for around $450ish I'd appreciate any linkage :)

$450 for the X800XT is a great deal. It's $500 at retail. Not sure you can get one. But I will help you look around. Always glad to shop for people who has money to spend.

But does your mom know that she has to pay around $500????? She may think it probably cost around $100 - $200 if you didn't tell her the price.

The X800 XT are pretty rare right now, I doubt that you can get it for around $450. I do think you may have to pay full retail, $500 (plus shipping and tax where applicable). I found 1 but it's pick up only. I will keep on looking.

pm a guy in these forums henesee. he said he currently has access to 3 xtpe's, he just got one himself. but will only hook you up with them if you can secure a payment, and i don't even know if he could ship one to you. he can get them locally in toronto, i think he said around $650 canadian, which may be in line with your budjet.

i would go for a x800XT as opposed to a PRO or a XT-PE. XTs are findable, just downclocked PE's, i think they run at 500-1000. but they've got all 16 pipes open, and you can oc to pe speeds.

other than that, try for a x800pro-vivo that can be modded into a x800xt.

Yeah she knows how much they are, I was talking about them and I guess she decided to buy me one and so she was looking them up online. I saw newegg has the 800xt non pe for $459 but they are out of stock. That would be perfect.

I think $500 is her limit though, like I said this is an unusual thing for her to do, I don'twant to push her :p

Personally I think a x800 pro will be sufficient. Only if you have an athlon 64 it will make any sense. Your system will be a bottleneck though and for a few more frames I wouldn't spend another € 100. Unless you overclock the hell out of your 2.4c :D

i'd go xt, you can always upgrade the chip chipper later. and a lot of those 2.4s go over 3.0 no problems.

If your mom is like mine, then you will let her buy you what she wants. If she is cool about getting your the top of the line video card then let her. Sometimes it is reward enough for them just to get the satisfaction out of seeing you happy. My parents gave me $300 for Xmas last year so that I could buy my plane tickets to vacation with them in Vegas this past winter. Sometimes they just want to see you happy and that is what makes them happy.
