Alright, I was running a CeleronII 600@1009mhz (2.1vcore) on my abit bh6.

I got a new motherboard as to give my brother my old one. I got an asus cuv4x-e as it was one of the few that would take a gig of ram, and I wanted the extra ram cuz i do stuff that uses it yadda yadda.

Well I plugged the chip in and it won't boot past 600mhz because the max vcore i can set on this board is 2.0v.

So I was wondering a couple things. I saw a link to a program called Rise of Abit or something and was wondering if there was anything like that for the Asus CUV4X-E.

Also.

Since I assume no such thing exists for the CUV4X-E, what would be a good reliable overclocking celeron to buy. I'd like to hit a ghz again but am not concerned if I push past it or not. I just want one that I can likely buy, up the voltage to 1.8 or 1.9 and o/c to 1ghz no problems. I know that not ALL cpu's will do it, but I'm looking for in general which one would be the likeliest to do it. I hear good things about the CII 667mhz cpu.

Thanks in advance for any help and all the help this forum has given me.

Hi kyip, wellcome to the Forum,
I'm not experienced with this Mobo, but I wanna suggest you a Celeron 2 800 or 900Mhz that generally works OCed around 1.1-1.2Ghz or more.

P.S. Plz, next time use a 'different' subject ;) thanks

ok ok sorry about the topic

alright I must be a little more ignorant to all this then I thought.

what is better between cC0 and cD0 stepping? Are they both available on celeron 2's? And how can i tell which the chip is. Here are the two CPU's I'm currently looking at (this is all the info provided on them).

INTEL CELERON 667 128K L2 CACHE RETAIL BOX $113CAD

and

INTEL CELERON II 800 RETAIL 128K L2 CACHE FCPGA $101.48CAD

now, does the 800mhz c2 run at 100mhz fsb or 66mhz fsb? In overclocking one tries to keep the multiplier as low as possible when they overclock right?

this upgrade has been an absolute nightmare for me. I'll go into it cuz the story is probably funny to those that it hasn't happened to.

I originally had an Abit Bh6 with with a celeron2 600@1009 (112mhz fsb, 2.1vcore).

My brother needed a computer so I figures well I'll upgrade my computer and give him my old motherboard. So I get the new motherboard in CUV4X-E which was recommended to me. I screw it into the case and start putting the heatsink on the cpu and snap, the little catch that holds the heatsink breaks off. (I swear i didn't use any un necessary force, well maybe a bit) So I call the place i got it from and they said they might warranty it, but if they did it would take like a month, meanwhile my bro's birthday is coming up fast. So i send the board back and order another board thinking i'll ebay the first one if it gets warrantied. So i get the second board thursday then naturally friday the replacement for my warrantied board showed up (4 days after shipping). So now i have 2 motherboards. (Anyone want a cuv4x-e :P). After getting the board in my computer, I decide to outdo myself and break a capacitor off my video card. which miracously still works in every way shape and form. But now I can't get that overclock to work cuz of .1vcore as mentioned above.

So that's why i chose my slightly unappropriate topic title :( Now, is this 667mhz cpu the one to go with or the 800mhz, i'm sorry i'm stupid, incompetant, don't know what fsb's they are and what stepping is, i'm just so fed up i want to buy a cpu, put it in and have the darn thing work. So can anyone answer my above questions on the 667 and 800mhz cpu's? Here's my full system specs below:

ASUS CUV4X-E Motherboard
1gig of pc133 (CAS1) RAM
Forsa nVIDIA GeForce 2MX (32meg) Video Card
Sound Blaster Live!
PCI NIC
3 Matrox UDMA 20gig Drives
1 Pacific Digital 4x cdr Drive.

the asus motherboard uses some viacap chipset or something like that, i'm at work and don't have the manual handy. If someone could help I will forever love you. I have long since promised my first born away but I can talk to my fiancee' about her plans for the second.

Don't worry, you're wellcome :)
The best stepping revision is the cD0 and generally, well, or you ask directly to the retailer or is shown on the website with the other chip info.
About the Cellie 667Mhz it works with a standard multip. of 10x and a Fsb of 66Mhz and is OCed rising the Fsb at 100Mhz, the 800Mhz use a Multip of 8x and a Fsb of 100Mhz, and is Oced at 133Mhz, much better for the bandwith, and also for the higher frequency.

I hope it helps you ;)

You cant overclock past 600 with a vcore of 2.0v

What?!!?

Change the FSB gradually. Start with 75mhz FSB and move on from there.

That voltage is really high.

If you plan on using a cDo I'd make sure that your board will support them, I've heard a few sad tails of fellows upgrading to cdo's and no boots.. some of the boards out there seem not to have the mirco code for the cdo's in thier bios..

Good luck, and yes the mods are out there so carefull on the subjects, glad to see you've taken it to heart though.
