Has this happened only once, or does it happen every time you try to install xp?

I have had fatal errors while installing 98 (can't remember if it was plain or SE). I wound up having to reformat and reinstall. Usually, after I reformatted and tried it again, it worked.

Oh - I see.

First of all, take a deep breath and relax. I can tell that your upset.

This is just a shot in the dark, but:
Make sure the XP disk is out of the cd-rom drive. Keep the boot disk in the A: drive. Also, your boot disk should have format.com on it.. check it before you do this.
Shut down completely.
The boot disk, if it's like 98 at all, should give you three choices upon restarting.
1. Install blah, blah
2. Run with CD-ROM support
3. Run without it. Chose this one.

You should be brought to the command prompt. Type in "format.com," and follow the instructions on the screen. Hopefully that will fix it. If not, well, good luck.

Yea well if you downloaded it I have heard that MS has messed with the ISO file a bit to mess up people that are passing out the file. If they but a tracking bug in it whats to say they didn't also put something in it like that. Also XP blows if your folding Rob your just killing your folding times.

Might be your cd it could be messed up

Installed it this morning on my VP6 system. Went without a hitch but mine's also an official CD from MSDN.

Haven't found anything special over the previous RC so I'll probably be back to Win2K before the weekend is over.

The remote assistance is pretty cool. Maybe I can talk my GF into installing it so I don't have to go in there when she has trouble, haha.

It's what loads your kernel. Looks like you're going to have to rebuild your boot record.

You'll have to boot with your startup disks/CD and choose repair then try and rebuild the boot record.
