I have thought about this a long time. I have compared price and performance. It all comes down to these four. Please help me decide!

1.Dragon Orb 3 7000RPM

2.Volcano 6cu+ 6800RPM

3.Global Win WBK 38 6800RPM

4.GW CAK 38

Hi hyperbob,
Plz, in wich position you've placed the ThermalRight SK6 and the Millennium Glaciator that seems to be the best cooler possible?

I need something cheap so bear with me.

Also add the Vantec CCK-6035D for Socket A/462 & Socket 370 to the list.

I have a tbird 1.4ghz are there any that you recommend? I need something under 40 bucks. I'm planning to overclock to 1.5 or 1.55

If I remember well, the SK6 is around 35$ and less the Glaciator, both seems to work like a Swifty MC462 that costs really a lot of bucks! and well, there aren't other ways for aircooling :)

I hope it helps you.

Glaciator runs around $40. SK6 also is right around there.

One thing you can not do in overclocking is to go spend alot of money on processors, motherboards, etc. and then skimp on cooling if you plan on overclocking. Cooling is the MOST important aspect in overclocking there is.

While the heatsinks and fans you list aren't that bad, you can do much better for only a few dollars more. I would rather wait than get it all in and be complaining that "My temps are 60C!! Help!!" and it happens all the time.

Most of those heatsinks are excellent to a certain point but when you are wanting to hit between 1.5-1.6GHz on an Athlon, you are getting into some serious heat.

If you absolutely have to be under $40...the Millenium Glaciator is excellent. The SK6 with a standard fan would probably be only a shade over $40.

Just my opinion and you can take it for what you will but I've bought cheap and I replaced cheap and all in all it cost me for both.

Jon hit it on the head. Don't skimp on your hfs. DEFINITELY don't get the orb. You plan on Ferrari speeds and want to spend FOrd Escort prices. Save your pennies a while longer and get a high-quality hfs.

yeah but im kinda scared already. I need a new HSF BAD! I'm running on the stock fan and without the software cooler it's around 54C!!! I can't wait anymore. BTW there was a review on the Volcano 6cu+ and the guy was overclocking the 1.4 TBIRD (same as mine) to 1.51 GHz and the temp under load was only 45C.

I ordered an SK-6 today that has a fan "rated better" than the delta for $33.75 + shipping.

They're only $20 again for the heatsink + delta 38. Whatta bargain. ;)

I'd have to say forget them and get a Mellinum Galactor, IMO nothing performs better, and alot of the seniors love it.. I'm suprised to see an Orb on the list, thats the last think I'd chose :)

get the golden gate it is going to give the best performance in the price category you have. Get the one with the delta. A .25 C/W for around $20 is a great price.

ok I'm not going to say to buy a specific heatsink because I haven't personally tested them so can't say which is best, but I have used the glaciator and would say you wouldn't be disapointed, it is quiet, very easy to install and remove, comes with a sachet of artic silver 2 and cools great.
I've heard a lot of possitive coments on the sk6 but the fan on it is quite noisy and I don't know if it could match the glaciator with an equally quiet fan.

the delta on the cheapo golden gate could be a problem for your ears.
Personnaly, I can't bear anything higher than a 28db 60*60mm fan... And my pc has not that many fan, only PSU fan, CPU heatsink fan and tiny geforce2 fan, add to that the spinning of a 7200 rpm IBM HD and you have a really noisy machine IMO.

So I don't know which side you are (airplane lovers, or submarine dreamers) but think before buying deltas fans :).
