View Full Version : Anyone care to speculate on this weirdness?

I had the misfortune of frying my AYHJA week 25 1333 Tbird (case knocked over, heatsink fell off, processor fried!) anyway… Replaced it with an AYHJA week 24 1333 Tbird, no other changes, no bios change, no other hardware change, no driver change etc. Everything is identical EXCEPT the processor. NOW, Here’s my question. Why would my 3Dmark 2001 score increase by 130 points? Why would disk drive benchmarks show that the write speed to my RAID 0 array is twice as fast as before? (btw, the old speed was way too slow, now its closer to normal for RAID 0). It appears that there was something not quite right with the old, now dead, processor.
I was just wondering if anyone else had seen obvious performance differences between what should have been two identical processors. This is a new one for me!!

either, a: your chip actually is faster or b: it's not

Either way, if it has improved 130 points I'd be pretty happy about it. Congratulations!

I used to run 3D Mark 200 repeatedly and I would see scores that varied by up to 150 points from one run to another. These benchmarks were done back to back, and the score would go up and down seemingly at random... I'm not sure if you've run the thing several times and thats an average or what.... but the old saying goes never look a gift horse in the mouth, right? Why question good fortune?
