I just got a Seagate 80gb barracuda about 2 months ago.. and while the hdd itself is good.. the ports on it.. and my motherboard for that matter.. are terrible.

The Power connector to the hdd isn't secure for some reason.. when I stick the connector into the hdd to power it up, even if it feels like it's in there firmly, I can hear my hdd starting up over and over again sometime when I'm in windows.

Also.. the sata ports on my motherboard.. I broke the first one even when I was trying to put it on gently.. oy.

But the big thing is when I'm playing a game how it freezes .. and I hear the hdd starting up and stopping.. over and over again until I push the power connector in the back of the hdd more firmly..

How can I fix this? I've tried a couple different power connectors and it's still doing it..

I don't think that if you unplugged and plugged a hard drive in while the game was playing that it would still work without a restart. Maybe it's something else?

is it the hard-drive connector then? it seems that way since you've tried a few... You could always use tape to hold it in place :p

Whenever it does it I can hear my hdd constantly trying to restart up over and over again..

It could be something else.. but it always seems to start working again when I push the connector back in there a bit better..

I just got a new cpu and mobo.. and my video card is still pretty good..

You might have cracked the connection on your hard drive. I personally did the same thing. The early signs of it are random freezes and your hard drive spinning up and down all the time.

I really wish they would have mad the connections out of something move concrete like a non conductive metal of better plastic.

If you're sure you didn't cause the problem, RMA that POS.

It certainly shouldn't be acting like that, I've gone through dozens of SATA drives without ever having similar problems.

ports on my motherboard are crappy, too. The cables are so stiff, I have had the guide for the connector break off on one.

I've had the guide break off of two different raptors. Luckily, the second one is still functional. The first one died on breakage. Sometimes it seems as though all you have to do is pull the cable straight off gently and the connector will go with it but if you yank it, it stays on...

The only time I ever had a problem with my hdd starting over and over again was because of the way I had everything plugged in. I redid what power connectors went where and never had the problem again.

I don't know what your system is, so I don't know if that could even be the problem.

I have 3 hdd, cd-rw, dvd-rom, and a 9800 pro to plug in. I found that my hdd don't like being plugged into the same cable of connectors.
