What's the deal w/ single sticks of ram? If i needed lots o ram (and i do), then would 2 stix of 1gig be better/worse than 4 stix of 512mb??

that is, i've heard that 1gig stix can be "slow"

anyone w/ experience in this?? links?? my efforts have been futile so far.

thnx

Your efforts in what? You are running a NF7-S, so you want 2 sticks of 1 gig, because the NF7-S only has 3 dimm slots and can only run 3200 in dual channel in 2 slots.

There is only two things you can do.

1. Keep your 2 sticks of 512 and buy a 1 gig stick but not have dual channel.

2. Sell your 2 sticks of 512 and buy 2 x 1 gig and have dual channel.

i don't know what i'll put em in yet or what i'll do.
the nf7, for example, would be best suited w/ 2 sticks of 1gig to max out ram and performance--i'd think. and from what i've read, most nf2 boards do dual channel only in 2 dimms

thats a negative jeff.

actually, if you bought another 1gig stick and put it in with the other 2x512 on a different channel, the NF7 WILL run it in dual channel, but only at 333ddr/166fsb speeds.

so if i'm putting together a gaming server, like for BFvietnam, which would i want:
1. 2x512MB ddr333 2-2-2
2. 3x512MB ddr333 2-2-2
3. 4x512MB ddr333 2-2-2 (like on a gainward GA-7N400PRO2 )
4. 2x1GB ddr333 2.5-3-3
5. 3x1GB ddr333 2.5-3-3 ???

thnx
