Howdy!

My employer has a bunch of non-networked machines that I'd like to put to use. Ideally, I'd like to be able to download work units to a flashdrive and deliver them to the machines at the same time that I'm retreiving results.

Is this something that's possible? It's a shame to see these cycles go to waste.

I saw in the FAQ that caching of WUs is not expressly permitted; this gives me my answer, but I just wanted to see if any of you guys had heard of another solution.

Thanks!

What I would suggest:

On a PC with net access start up FaH and choose the following options:
- WUs without Deadlines
- Minimise Networking

Then it will download 10 Work Units without deadlines. Copy this folder onto the non-networked PC, run until all 10 are complete, and copy them back over to a networked PC.

Works for on my dually (which is without net access).

GREAT!! Someone who's doing exactly what I'm looking for!!

Pardon the questions, but just a little more clarification; I'm not as familiar with the workings of the program as I should be. Would the best course of action be to install a 'dummy' installation of FAH on one of my local machines with the flags you specified, then grab everything out of the 'work' directory and dump it into the same dir on the non-networked machines? Meaning, all I need to replace each time is the contents of the 'work' directory?

When they're finished, just do the reverse, allowing the local client to upload?

I assume for each installation (~20 machines), I'll be downloading individual 'work' directories. Looks like the Nike method is going to be a workout :D

Thanks again!

just a question, please don't go ape chit on me here...have you though about or asked about getting those machines networked? maybe if you supplied the cables they would slap them into the network...just a thought, but I am interested in more details about non-networked machines :)
