Whats the most profitable way to make money off of the internet?

ok guys...simple as what the title.....my dad is lookin into making money off the net (just got screwed on a horse sale)...ive heard many people suggest website and banners and such...but i dont think we could come up with something people wouold visit...someone suggested hosting webspace and charging people...which i was contemplating (need more info on that)..i have no prob leavin PC's on all the time

any suggestions guys? thanks

I don't know many easy solutions, but I definitely know one hard one. Hosting webspace! :) Don't even bother. If you're looking for 'easy money' seek elsewhere. Starting a website and selling something is the best way, that's how most places online make money. :D Find something you can make and sell it.

making money off of websites is not easy, even with alot of banners because you have to have a ton of traffic to make money off the banners, then you have to pay for bandwidth to be able to handle the traffic.

hosting, this would be something kinda easy way to make money, just goto like www.ev1servers.net and buy a few of thier $99 servers and then get 10 people paying $10 each per server and the server is paid for, then pack a few more people on for profit, but the hard part about hosting people is, people want good and fast support.

Other then that, a "pure" internet money making scheme doesn't exist. Instead, try to find ways to use the internet to increase profit from other things.

So, if your dad provide any sort of service or product, use the net to get new customers. And the best way is often to be pro-active. I run a small business doing textile prints. So, we have a website there to make sure people can find us. But our way to make money from the net, is to use blogs, sites, news and such to get in contact with people who might need our services. No, not spam, just using the net as a source of information and offering products people/organizations actually need.

Banner ads dont raise much money, and hosting isnt cheap. Making money that way doesnt really work unless you have half your page as adverts which just annoys users.

Selling online - even via ebay or similar - is relatively easy. Also perhaps web programming, building websites, or doing tech support may bring in some money.

It would be easier I think to use the web to support and enhance an existing business than to have that purely as your business. ie if you already run a store of some sort then get a website to promote it.

Well, its quite difficult to make $$ off the Internet since the bubble burst. If it didn't, you probably could have just opened up a Internet Company and made $$ pedalling non-existant wares.

There are Online Surveys. You could try www.greenfieldonline.com and www.gozing.com. I've made around $50 US on Gozing in about a year and a half. I know it isn't much, but at least it's something for doing essentially nothing, and as you're American, you'll have more working options.

You could also do the buy and resell stuff on Ebay method, as mentioned. What you could try is go to a website such as www.fatwallet.com and buy stuff that is extremely cheap, and resell it a couple weeks later.

If he's got any web design or programming skills (PHP and MySQL seem to be particularily popular), he might want to check out some the freelance programming sites. You don't make a lot of money (at least not at first), but its very easy to get started (assuming you have the basic skills).

The sites I'm talking about usually have webmasters and such post projects they want done, and then programmers bid on them. After that, the site puts the two parties into contact, for a commission. A google search ought to turn up lots of such websites. I wouldn't call it the best or most profitable way to make money, especially at the beginning. You'll have to start small, since most sites have a ebay-ish feedback system, and you are unlikely to be chosen for a sizable project without considerable positive feedback.

the resaleing idea on ebay is very bad, if he can visit fatwallet then can anyone else, and most stuff requires rebates, now if u wanna do that u better have more than 1 address for rebate and a heapful amount of money for investment since alot will be stuck in rebate, problem saleling on ebay is this, take example the 60GB HDD on OD this weekend, u pay 44 for the drive, 25 rebate, assuming that you get the rebate 4 months later making the drive 19 bucks. saleing on ebay price is around 30 (50 cent/gb) law and that might not even sale since that's price is kindda high, plus there's also shipping money, so there, not a good way to make profit.

now if u can open something like newegg, then u can make profit, i would say porn is your best bet :)

Dont sell complete computers online, you will loose alot of money. Sell small stuff that is required for a low price. Like, Scisors , makup! Sell maryk online lol. hey, i know this thread is over a year old. but was adsens out a year ago? and my question still stands. only thng that has changed is, i garbage picked some awesome blade server, ive got the ram comming for it this week. i plan on starting small, (with f riends, family and locals) then upping it as demands require, as long as im getting something out of it.

I ask, because i caught on to what PHPBBFree does.

Its some kid, who doesnt know his arse from a hole in the ground. He hosts PHP forums, and puts google adsense on every page, of every forum. Iits working nicely for him, hes got people kissing up to him nonstop for his shotty service.

He started out, at home, in his basement. Ok, i can dig, i have no problem buying SCSI raid drives and such...and upgrading the DSL...(gotta spend money to make money). Anyways, just past week, he decided to move from 1 server, to 6 dual xeon servers...genius he was, didnt mirror his raid, didnt make a DLT backup...adn took the main server offline to transfer a lousy 35gb from 1 server to these others...took him 9 days! and hhes going "well the transfer is taking a long time beacuse its a unix filesystem, you wouldnt understand"

Now we all understand backup. i wouldnt mind trying something like that..he had something nuts like 30,000 forums (he claims) using some HostIT service for pictures.

But aside from that, id start small. My gf is looking to start a small business selling candles/soaps. Now i guess theres some weird candles with some cymbols that are very rare to get ahold of, that mean alot to those psycic flake people. I figured i could make her molds of whatever special candle in 3D, send it in to a milling shop (once its translated to CAD) making her onea the only suppliers of these weird..girly candles...moreso sitting on my server running adsense :) .

Then ive got a few little invetions of my own i need prototyped..sell em on my own site. of corse getting the rights to them all.

and lastly, i just recevied 2 large format printners today, 14x19" epsons. Wonder if i could offer some printing services. THeyre both postscrip , photoshop etc all that fun stuff.

Myself and two of my friends are starting an Internet business. I do computers/networking/sales. The guy whose idea the business was is doing sales, and this other guy across the country is doing the web site (he is l33t at web design).
