i been looking at the radeon 9200 se or the gforce 5200
i need it for a pci slot here are my computer stats:
2.8ghz, p4 fsb 533, 512mb ddr 400, 80gb 7200rpm
-i want to spend less then 100 dollars, i play games such a underground, nba live, madden and so on, right now i have a gforce 2 mc200 64 mb and its not that good, i have to have low resolution.

i basically want good graphics, but not top of the line. i want to knwo whether i should go for 256 or just stick with 128. i think the fx supports up to 9.0 directx but the 9200 only does 8.1, does that make a difference? any info will help me thank you.

Go 256. Most games coming out suport lower, but not with full graphics, and I'm sure 256 will be standard very soon, if it's not already.

dx8.1, dx9, 128mb, 256mb, nvidia, ati, none of this will really matter with a pci card.

pci cards will run slow regardless. i would go with whatever is cheaper.

Even if it was agp it would be pointless to get an 256mb one as it will too slow to run games that use it, even the 9800pro doesn't see a improvement from having more mem but i think that will change as more demanding games come out, and as stated above you won't get great performance from a pci card I would save and plan to get a new mobo at least.

I suggest a pci 128mb radeon 9100. www.shentech.com used to have a Visiontech 9100 128mb for around $50, I dont know if they still have them though.
