I am seriously worried, I hope someone can help!

I had a RAID0 array and one of the drives failed. No problem I thought! I had my files all backed up on another hard disk especially for the day when this happened.

Well anyway, I noticed that the fault with my hard disk was power related because it kept spinning down then spinning up as if someone was flicking an on/off switch on it so I set out to see if I could fix it by swapping power connectors around etc..

Well, it seems like the problem is with the motor on the drive which I doubt I can fix so I was just going to RMA the disk because its still under warranty, but yesterday I noticed that the name of my backup drive has changed to 'Local Disk'

I double clicked on it and it says:
J: is not accessible
the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

When I go to properties on it it says Used Space 0 bytes, Available Space 0 bytes. Scandisk wont even touch it!

I have got every file I have ever worked on since my very first 386 machine over 10 years ago on this disk . 10 years of work all gone!!! everything I have ever done on my pc in my entire life is gone and the only reason I am not scared as hell is because I am currently running EasyRecovery software and it has found 82000 files so far. I just hope they arnt corrupt. 2 days ago this backup drive was fine! it must have been while I was switching my pc off and on in an attempt to try and fix the original hard disk problem that caused corruption.

I am sure that only the boot sector or FAT sector is corrupted, the mechanics of the drive are fine. The question is does anyone know how I can fix my MBR or FAT sector or in any other way recover my hard disk?

You probably have the best chance of recovery of the backup by removing the drive and sticking it in another machine as a slave. That way you would have a known good configuration and operating system. From there, you should be able to run chkdsk easily without rebooting since it will be a slave.
